Miss Macbeth will again be heard in the tile role, while Mr. Chamlee will be opposite her as Lionel. The work of these two artists in these parts is well-known to all Ravinia patrons. Miss Macbeth makes Martha a fun- loving girl, filled with the spirit of mis- chief, but who succumbs gracefully to the call of romance. Mr. Chamlee's beautiful lyric voice is perfectly adapt- ed to the love arias in which this work is replete, and his singing of that won- derful song, "M'Appari" is always con- sidered one of the high spots of a Ravinia season. Madame Bourskaya and Mr. Lazzari will be heard as Nancy and Plunkett, respectively, sup- plving much of the good fun which is an enjoyable feature of this celebrated opera. Mr. Trevisan will be cast as Sir Tristan, with Mr. D'Angelo as the sheriff. Louis Hasselmans will con- duct. "Chenier" Next Tuesday In view of the fact that hundreds who were anxious to hear "Andrea Chenier' on the opening night of the season could not be accommodated on this occasion, Mr. Eckstein has sche- duled a repeat performance of this work for Tuesday night, July 5, with exactly the same cast as that which inaugurated the season. Others in the cast are Madame Bourskaya, Miss Swarthout, Mr. Mojica, Mr. Defrere, Mr. D'Angelo, Mr. Paltrinieri, Mr. Ananian and Mr. Derman. Genarro Papi will conduct. There is heavy demand every season for Massenet's beautiful opera "Man- on," and it is good news that this far- famed French work is to be given early presentation this year. It has been scheduled for Wednesday night, July 6, at which time Madame Bori, who is probably the greatest interpre- ter this role has ever had, will appear in the name part. As the wilful Manon, Madame Bori creates a char- acter study which has a depth that elevates it far above the average opera role. She sets forth the many sides of Manon's fickle character so tellingly that not a detail is omitted from the picture she draws. In addition to his- trionic shading she gives the role splendid vocal interpretation, breath- ing forth the spirit which Massenet has written into the score. Mario Chamlee will be heard as the young and romantic Chevalier Des Grieux, a lyric role which fits him like the prov- erbial glove. In this part he has an opportunity for that beautiful singing which distinguishes his work and makes it heart-appealing.
