Quicksands and Slide Kelly at Village T heatre The versatile Richard Dix as an army lieutenant, who in the ordinary course of duty falls in with more hair- raising adventures than happens to the layman in the course of a lifetime, plays the lead in "Quicksands" show- ing at the Village theater Monday and Tuesday. The picture is a fast moving melo- drama of the frontier, where a gang of smugglers makes headquarters in a hard boiled town, and shatters the placidity of honest folk with its ne- farious activity. The girl in the case, Helene Chadwick, is forced by the pinch of circumstances to live a double life. The story moves fast. Dix in love with the girl, finds himself launched in a campaign against the smugglers. People who like good fast action will find plenty of it in "Quicksands." "Wedding Bill$" Raymond Griffith with his inimi- table and unique style of silk-hat comedy, will be presented Wednesday and Thursday in "Wedding Bill$," which is said to be one of his greatest comedy vehicles in years, in a class with "Path to Paradise," and "Hands Up," and other great successes. Griffith will present a new leading woman, the blonde and beautiful Ann Sheridan who although only 19 years old, has been signed to a long term contract with Paramount, because of her promising work in "Casey at the Bat." The picture is a typical Griffith ve- hicle, full of fast and furious fun. "Slide, Kelly, Slide" A great grandstand in New York, filled with thousands of yelling fans --and the two most famous baseball teams in America battling in grim earnest--this is the mighty background for "Slide, Kelly, Slide," Metro-Gold- wyn-Mayer's new baseball picture play- ing Friday and Saturday. The recent World Series furnished the setting. Cameras were sent from the studios and set up during the New York games, and William Haines. hero of the story, donned Yankee uniform and appeared with the New Yorkers against the St. Louis Cardinals, for the intimate scenes in the picture. The new production, biggest base- ball picture in history, is an intimate tale of life with a major league team, with Haines in the role of hero. Sally O'Neil, Karl Dane, Harry Carey, Warner Richmond, Junior Coghland, Eileen Sedgwick and other noted play- ers. Also some of the most famous baseball players in America make their screen debut in the picture; such men as Bob Meusel and "Irish" Meusel and Tony Lazzeri of the Yankees, Mike Donlin, world's greatest hitter and for years idol of the New York Giants, and others of note. GLENCOE UNION CHURCH "Winners of the Wilderness" will be the film presented at the Glencoe Unibn church next Friday, July 8. "Rough House Rosie" With Clara Bow at Norshore Clara Bow in "Rough House Rosie," comes to the Norshore Sunday. The star is an east side girl with an intense desire to be a "lady." As for the story, "Rough House Rosie" concerns itself with Rosie, a belle of Tenth Avenue, and, more important, the sweetheart of the "coming middleweight champion of the world." You haven't seen the half of "IT." Clara's intense desire to become a lady leads her into adventures that call on her greatest dramatic quali- ties. A large cast of Hollywood ex- perts assist Clara.
