Tim McCoy appears at the Varsity. The summer program has added an extra comedy, and there are news reels and novelty reels enhancing the feature showing. John Gilbert and Renee Adoree, the combination that scored one of the screen successes of history in "The Big Parade," are together for the first time since that picture, in "The Show," Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's sen- sational romance of the Budapest underworld, coming Monday to the Varsity. They play the central characters in a strange romance laid in a myster- jous sideshow on the outskirts of the "invisible city"--a sideshow of illusions, magician's tricks and strange gro- tesques. ON VACATION Several members of the faculty of the National Kindergarten and Ele- mentary college left the first of July for their vacations. Mrs. Louise L. Kimball, social director, will spend the summer in New Jersey, her former home. Miss Frances Kern of the super- vision department has gone to her sum- mer home in Maine and Miss Florence Linnell, also of the supervision depart- ment, to Chautauqua, N. Y. Miss Mabel Kearns, secretary of the college, and Miss May Whitcomb, journalist, are spending a month in Estes Park, Colo. Other members of the faculty who are remaining in Ev- anston for the summer session are making interesting vacation plans for the latter part of the summer. | Kenilworth Water System | Meets Hot Weather Demand A half-million gallons of water were | pumped each day of last week's heat | wave by the Kenilworth pumping plant. | Installation of the new water tank and | pumping system last year is given credit for the fact that the facilities during this period of extra strain were found to be entirely adequate and that it was not found necessary to curtail sprinkling or other water privileges to give good service and maintain safety for the Village. Many Christians say, "If I can take a back seat in Heaven, I shall be satisfied." "Grow in grace." The old age of grace is maturity, not decay: advance, not de- cline ; perfection, not imbecility. We go from strength to strength. Without grace, there can be no saving knowledge. POPULAR BOOKS Books of wild adventure are plenti- ful just now. "My Journey to Lhasa" gives a woman's story of her trip to the Forbidden City, "Plain Tales of the North" is sketches by Captain Thierry Mallet of the fur-bearing regions of thé Far North; "The Land of Magel- lan" is W. S. Barclay's account of that most thrilling of sea voyages, around Cape Horn; and most amazing of all perhaps is "Trader Horn" the story of an African trader's life on the Ivory Coast.
