-- App---- ------ J emma July 9, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 3 Evanston Has Lists of 200 Best Books by American Writers There are now available copies of the prize list of 200 "best books" by Amer- ican authors, compiled for the Gener- al Federation of Women's clubs' con- test recently conducted through Scrib- ner's magazine The list was edited by Harriet C. IL.ong of the Wisconsin Library com- mission who has for a number of vears selected the volumes that are issued through the extension plan of the library. The object of the contest was to encourage interest in the crea- tive work of American writers, and the books were restricted to those written, translated or compiled by Americans. The list includes the date of publica- tion, the publisher and the price of the volumes selected. It includes biogra- phy, history, travels around the world, novels, new and old, books "from our romantic past," "of books and au- thors," "essays with charm," poetry, theater and drama, art music, science, "the world about us," philosophy, re- ligion, books of special interest and children's books. The cost of the list is trifling, and it is being circulated to an interested patronage. Dr. Norman Richardson to Speak at Assembly Dr. Norman A. Richardson, profes- sor of religious education, Northwest- ern university, will be the speaker at the July 21 assembly of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college, and will give the results of a very in- teresting study of the problem experi- ences of adolescent girls which he has carried on with the assistance of a group of his students. Although the students in the college are primarily interested in the problems relating to childhood, they frequently come in di- rect contact with those of the older child, and practical material on this subject is very valuable to them.
