wr EARN Sr Xo July 23, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Boy Scouts | | More Scouts to Go to Camp Many north shore Boy Scouts are | planning to take advantage of a special | fifth period at Camp Checaugau, run- | . , " | ning from August 22 to September 3.| It was originally planned to have only | : : ; I four periods at this camp, but there | has been such a demand from the] Scouts for a camp period just before | school opens that such an arrangement 's practically assured. Several troops in Glencoe, Highland Park, Deerfield | and other towns have spoken for places, and a number of Scouts who have already been to this camp are seeking for a chance to go back for | another two weeks. | Court of Honor The August Court of Honor for the| award of badges earned by North | Shore Area Scouts will be held at Highland Park on August 1, probably at Sunset park; where, if the weather permits, a Camp Fire program will be held and the awards made as a part of this. This Court will be for Scouts from all towns within the north shore area and parents and friends are cordi- ally invited to attend. Many Troops Enjoy Outdoor Meetings Summer is out-of-doors time and the Scouts of the North Shore Area are taking advantage of it in every way they can. Besides many Scouts going to camp, those who stay home are en- joying overnight camping trips, day hikes, and evening outdoor programs. An example of how these outdoor pro- grams are carried on may be shown by looking into the program of Troop 36 at Highwood for Friday evening, July 22. They are to meet at their reg- ular meeting place and from there one patrol (eight boys) will proceed to a| secret destination in the woods, leav- ing a trail for the second patrol to fol- low. Shortly after the first patrol has started the second will set out in an attempt to trail the first patrol and | catch them before they arrive at their destination. After all have arrived at the Camp Fire site, a roaring fire will be built and the meeting will proceed with songs, yells and stories as all good Camp Fire programs do. At closing time the Scout benediction will be re- peated and the boys will return home, tired but happy. This is typical of what is happening throughout the north shore, in fact throughout the country wherever there are Boy Scouts. Miss Vinnie Irwin, 468 Ridge ave- nue, spent last week-end in Vincennes, Ind. at her home there. The occasion was the celebration of her mother's | seventieth birthday.
