A SAN. August 6, 1927 WINNETKA TALK SKEETER FOES CONFER North Shore Representatives to Dis- cuss Abatement Measures at Evans- Next Monday The call for a mass meeting Monday night, August 8, at 8 o'clock in the offices of John F. Hahn, 1623 Sherman avenue, Evanston, for the purpose of determining the best means of or- ganizing a mosquito abatement district oa the north shore was issued this week. Announcements were sent to more than a hundred persons residing in the townships of New Trier, Evanston, Niles and Northbrook by a temporary committee consisting of John F. Hahn and Arthur Stringer, Evanston; Arthur Burrage Farwell and William Ed- wards, Glencoe; Howard C. Phillips, Winnetka, and F. I. Streed, Kenil- worth. "We know quite well that everyone interested in mosquito abatement has not received a notice of this meeting," says Mr. Edwards, "so we are taking this means of urging such interested citizens to be present next Monday night. The law provides a way to rid our beautiful communities of mos- quitoes but the organization of the districts must proceed in an orderly manner in compliance with the certain specific directions set forth in the law. "In this modern age it is just as old- fashioned to tolerate mosquitoes as it is to ride to work down Sheridan road in a horse drawn buggy. Science has taught us the knowledge of vanquish- ing the pests and now that a law pro- vides the financial means for success- ful attack, it is our own fault if we do not speedily organize for battle. "Once the size of the district is definitely agreed upon petitions will be circulated for presentation to County Judge Jarecki upon their signing by five percent of the voters. In memory of their son, George Henry Payne, Jr., who died February 9, Mr. and Mrs. George Henry Payne of 330 Greenleaf avenue, Wilmette, adopted a baby August 1.
