a ---------- August 20, 1927 WINNETKA TALK | Sunset Ridge, Young Man's Golf Club | (Continued from Page 15) members got their first chance to see and play over their new course which is as modern as any on the north shore. At the same time anxious eyes were enabled to view a fine clubhouse. "But how were you able to accom- plish all this and how was the club financed?" we inquired. Members Finance Club Alfred K. Urion of Winnetka, who is the secretary of Sunset Ridge, smiled. "Oh, that was worked out very easily and very nicely," he answered. "The club membership dues paid for the land and built the course. Then the members subscribed liberally to a bond issue and we built the clubhouse. Of course we have a bonded debt, but as we have a great club that is inconse- ship last year, Howard Walton, James P. Gillies, Arthur T. Goodman, I. B. Connor, and Robert B. Umberger. Miss Virginia Ingram of Winnetka is the women's champion. Miss In- gram is a fine player and competes in many of the big Chicago tournaments. Other good players are Mrs. Arthur T. Goodman and Mrs. I. B. Connor. Dave Tosh is the club professional. It is his second year at the club. He has little time for tournament play because of his activity at Sunset Ridge. There's a bright. social side to Sun- set Ridge, too. Dinner dances are held every Saturday night. One of the season's features is the annual Harvest Home Dance in the fall. Tues- day is ladies' day on the course and the afternoon of that day the fair sex enjoy their bridge games. Mrs. Arthur T. Goodman is chair- man of the women's golf committee. ©) Slip across to land in ten fast, sparkling days. Aboard quential." Par for the course is seventy. Two or three of the members have broken par, but iteremained for a chap named Jack Westland to turn the trick this year. Westland, who joined the club only a few months ago, having moved to the north shore from the state of Washington recently showed his metal by winning the Chicago District cham- pionship. Many Fine Players Sunset Ridge boasts several other fine players, among them Waldo Thorsen, who won the club champion- C. Pearl. Mr. O'Hagan Is Popular In writing the story of Sunset Ridge one should not forget to mention Har- ry O'Hagan. Mr. O'Hagan is the managing director and when a tired and hungry golfer, after a round of eighteen holes, finishes putting with a knife and fork in the dining room the world looks rosier. Mr. O'Hagan proves that the way to popularity is through a man's stomach. The officers of the club are: Presi- dent--Dwight T. Green, Winnetka: Vice-President--Ryland A.
