Hubbard Woods Pupils Give Original Plays While no special school observance of Hallowe'en was made at the Hub- bard Woods school, the various rooms prepared little programs, and pre- sented them last Friday. One of the programs, prepared by Miss Clara Bernhard's sixth grade pu- pils, was attended also by Miss Rebecca Mitchell's room and consisted of an original play entitled "A Night in a School Room." The play was written by Marian Sieck, one of the | pupils, and was directed by Grace | Barnum. Unfolding in true Hallowe'en | style, the play related the story of the adventures of two children who fell asleep and dreamed that they were in the schoolroom and that mathematical ghosts and geographic goblins had gone on a Hallowe'en rampage. On Monday of next week another play will be presented during the as- sembly period by pupils of one of the fourth grades. This play is also orig- inal and is entitled "The Adventures of a Black Cat and a Pumpkin." President William S. Nordburg de- livered an enthusiastic address on the work of the association, its aims and purposes. "The community is one," he said, "which is growing and developing rapidly, and from which problems of general interest and varied in nature are arising." He praised the community spirit and interest in all these matters, as mani- fest by the large attendance at the meeting and the expressions of en- thusiastic support so frequently heard. President Nordburg told the associa- tion that its officers and all its com- mittees, as well, are continually seek- ing out various matters which will, in any way, work to the advantage of the community. Such problems are con- stantly before them, he said, whether it be at the time of these sessions or during the intervening periods. He likened their duties and the manner in which the organization now functions, to a sort of a vigilance committee, and requested anyone, who, at anv time. might have a suggestion to make for the good of the community, to either write him a letter or phone him and he promised to call a special meeting of the association, if such an emer- gency is necessary, to act upon it. President Nordburg said it had been decided to hold five general meetings and four executive sessions this year, and as many special meetings as it is found necessarv. The general meetines will begin with the reading of the minutes of the preceding session, fol- lowed by a review of what is being done, and the scheduling of new busi- ness, The executive and special meetings will be devoted entirely to business. E. J. Flannery, chairman of the so- cial and entertainment committee, was responsible for a real treat at the meeting Monday evening. There was community singing, in- enired by Irving Christian and Mr. Flannerv; an amusing English mono- locue by Mr. Bartlett: (Mavor Thompson was not amone those pres- ent): a violin duet bv Mrs. Valona Brewer and Mrs. Robert Kingery, with Mrs. E.
