Factory Branch 1620 Sherman Avenue Greenleaf 700 oe Mad Dog Spreads Rabies' Scare in Northbrook Town Northbrook is the scene of the latest outbreak of rabies, where everything that could happen in a genuine mad dog scare took place last week, in cluding the biting of a child by a rabid dog, the killing of several dogs and an official order for citizens to either keep all dogs tied up or muzzled. Chief of Police Roy Lee went gun- ning for dogs and killed six in one dav, as a result of which the owners of the canines are said to be greatly incensed and contemplate taking action, if possi- ble, against the village for the sum- mary manner in which their pets were eliminated. The strav dog infected with rabies, arrived in Northbrook Tuesday of last week, it is said, coming in from the west on the Dundee road. It is thought he must have bitten numerous other dogs and perhaps some cattle, as he pursued his uncertain course through the country side. The fir<t person he encountered upon arriving in Northbrook was the little nine vear-old son of William Melzer, who was severely bitten on the hand. The alarm spread quickly about the village and Chief Lee sallied forth with his heaviest artillery, and very soon the doo was dead. Chief Lee said, upon the advice of village officials, he then notified own- ers of dogs to keep them either shut up or muzzled, until it is determined how many have become infected from bites by the stray dog, which, later investigation revealed, was actually suffering from a well developed case of rabies. The wounds of the little boy who was bitten were given necessarv atten- tion, at once, and he is now said to be out of danger. Dr. Tohnston C. Davis, of Deerfield. is the health officer at Northbrook. TO PRESENT DAUGHTER The Dwight Chases of Winnetka. re- cently of Boston, will present their daughter, Virginia, to society Saturday at one of the largest parties of this season, the hours from 4 to 7.
