November 5: 1927 WINNETKA TALK 67 N. T. GRIDDERS TO MEET ROOSEVELT HIGH BOYS Lecal Eleven Picked to Win Over Chicago Team on Home Field; Down Whiting 18-14 Stirring of the "dope-pot" over this nfternoon's tilt between New Trier High school gridders and Roosevelt High of Chicago fails to bring forth any great amount of information re garding the invaders. It is known, however, that Roosevelt has been de- feated by Austin, Lane, and Marshall, | the latter defeat to the tune of 89 to 0. | Considering these facts and past re cords, New Trier should have the edge upon the south-downers by a favor able margin and the tilt should prove merely a polishing game for the two big games with Evanston and Deer field, scheduled for the coming weeks. The line-up this week will probably | | vards for the touchdown that won thc he shifted considerably and it is con sidered probable that Coach Aschen- bach will start either Fred Smith or Goss at full back in the place of Rich- ards. Markley, half, who was injured in the Whiting game, may be super- ceded by Baker while Harwood may | | school held grade P. T. Sheldon and Hoagland, backfield men who were injured early in the season, | will hold down the bench again this | Saturday. Win over Whiting Over-confidence and the lack of a North- western alone this season for in the | Whiting game last week New Trier | goal kicker has not affected erred grossly in both of these depart- ments and barely eked out a victory by an 18-14 score. Whiting on the other hand made good in both of their | opportunities to score after touch- down. The lines were about even | New Trier fumbled and Jones crossed throughout the game but New Trier early uncorked a brilliant aerial attach. | and made excellent gains in this man | ner. | The first New Trier touchdown came in the first period of play when, after a Whiting punt, New Trier marched through to the goal in two downs, McArthur carrying the ball over the line. In the second quarter Whiting equalled the score and then Licked goal and was leading 7 to 6. Shortly afterward Sullivan returned a Whiting | punt to mid-field, and on the second down in resumed play a pass, Smith to Hicks, netted 25 yards and was fol lowed by another New Trier goal when Baker crashed through and over the line. About the middle of the third quar ter, Bancheck, Whiting man, punted, the line for another Whiting goal. In the same quarter Richards made a beautiful interception of a Whiting pass, lifting the ball fairly from the Whiting man's hands, and raced 60 game for New Trier. No scoring was made in the final period. HOLD GRADE MEETINGS Two rooms at the Hubbard Woods 4 meetings last week. Miss I.. Johnson's room met with Mrs D. Bligh Grasett of 797 Walden road.
