rm -- November 19, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 51 School Children Present Puppets at Country Day The Puppet Players of the North Shore Country Day school, comprising five members of the sophomore class, presented a puppet play in the school auditorium, November 3 The play was a dramatization of a Russian fairy tale. The stage scenery, lighting and costumes were executed by the five authors of the play, and they each manipulated one of the pup- pet actors. The characters in the show were: The king, his two daughters, the vil- lage tanner, the dragon (a prince in disguise), a bird, a retainer, the queen of the mermaids and one of her sub- jects. The plot opens in a Russian city. The king is bemoaning his failure to stop the inroads of a dragon, who is de- vouring all the maidens of the land. In drawing the lots to determine who shall be the next victim, the king learns that his daughter must go. In spite of his protests, she insists on going. The next scene takes place in the dragon's cave. There the princess gets the dragon to fall in love with her, in- stead of devouring her as he intended. He reveals to her that the only man who can kill him is the tanner living in her father's city. In the third scene the father receives a message from his daughter. He sends for the tanner, but only the artful flat- tery of his other daughter causes that worthy person to go. In the fourth scene he kills the dragon and throws him into the ocean. There the dragon is turned back into a prince by the queen of the mermaids. In the last scene he appears at the court and is forgiven and receives the king's pardon and the princess's hand in marriage. The tanner marries the other daughter. Walter Scorns Snow Shovel and Takes Train for South Walter Stelzel, following the busiest season he has ever experienced as "Pro" at the Winnetka Playfield Golf course, tossed his golf bag and clubs into the baggage car and himself boarded a Dixie Flier Pullman this week bound for the sunny courses in Southern Florida, where he will spend the winter. Walter says he would rather swing a golf club any day than a snow shovel, and when he read the weather forecast for the week, he felt it was time to go. He played golf in the Southland last winter. He will return early in the spring, in trim, and prepared for what prom- ises to be a still greater golf season at Skokie Playfield. a You Are Invited to Inspect a Model Swiss Home November 19th to December 4th 10°A.
