Swimmers in Initial Meet Against Deerfield In the swimming meet held between New Trier and Deerfield this week in the New Trier tank, the following men swam for New Trier: Senior back- stroke, Read and Netterson; Junior backstroke, Roos and Bent; Senior 40 vd. crawl, Bennett and Patterson; Junior 40 yd. crawl, Prussing and Bar- ritt; Senior 100 yd., Bennett and Pat- terson; Senior breast stroke, Rich and Keith; Junior breast stroke, Solomon and Larner; Senior diving, Enchel- mayer and Grandstrom; Junior relay, Roos, Prussing, Barritt and Bobb; Senior relay, Bennett, Bates, Williams and Patterson: Senior medley relay, Read, Patterson, Rich and Bennett; and in the Junior medley relay, Bent, Zinner, Roos and Ogan. Coach Jackson held the tryouts for the squad last Monday, picking the fastest men in each event and elim- inating the others. Each man's time was taken in his event thereby de- termining the fastest men in each event. While several of the good swimmers are either ineligible or un- able to come out at this time, it is hoped that they will be out as soon as possible. Meets have already been arranged with Evaaston and Engle- wood, both meets to be held in Lake New Trier. Other meets have not as yet been arranged, but probably will be by the end of next week. Squad practice is held every Monday, Wed- nesday and Thursday after school, while general swims are held on Tues- days and Fridays at 4 o'clock. Al- though there are no exceptional swim- mers, Coach Jackson has succeeded in selecting a bunch of very good material for the squad. The squad has as its manager, Allan McNaughton and Fred Favor as associate. Mme. Normelli's Pupils to Give Annual Recital An elaborate and interesting pro- gram has been planned for the annual winter musicale which voice pupils of Madame Edith Bideau Normelli, con- cert soprano, will give at the Georgian hotel Thursday afternoon, Dec. 8. Invitations were issued this week to friends of the singers participating. Annabel Robbins Schroyer, who has accompanied Madame Normelli for several years, will present a group of piano numbers. These will include Pal- gren's "May Night," Collins' "Valse Elegante," and Beecher's "Scherzando." The recital hours will be 3 to 5. CIRCLE PLANS XMAS PARTY The Pine Street circle is entertaining at a Christmas Carol program on Fri- day, December 9, at 3 o'clock in the Neighborhood room of Community House. Dolls numbering about fifty, which have been dressed by circle members for little girls at the Lake Bluff orphanage, will be on exhibition to lend color to the party. Choose Grid Captain at Harvest Jamboree Election of football captain and an- nouncement of letter winners marked the annual Harvest Home Jamboree of the Northwestern University club of Chicago which was held at the Hotel Sherman Friday night. More than 1,500 Northwestern alumni at- tended the event. Northwestern's big band of 125 pieces was on hand for the session. Movies of all the games were also shown. Members of the varsity and freshman football teams were guests of honor, as was the entire coaching staff. The jamboree marked the close of the football season and was one of the big events of the year. Election of of- ficers of the Northwestern University club was also held at this time. John H. Cadmus was chairman of the meeting. Mrs. John W. Hansel, Jr., and her son, Livingstone, of 1440 Tower road, spent the Thanksgiving holidays with Mrs. Hansel's family in Moline, IIL VISITS IN WINNETKA Miss Forence M. Marshall, principal of the Manhattan Trade School for Girls in New York City, spent two days this week as the guest of Mrs. Roland D. Whitman of 640 Hill road. Miss Marshall left this morning to attend the Convention of Vocational Workers in California.
