The latest conclusion of cultists who are waging war against the noisy bands in the cafes and restaurants of Eng- land and most of the Continental coun- tries, is that jazz music is so stimulat- ing that it takes too much blood away from the stomach and therefore caus- es indigestion. Bands are so numer- ous and noisy in the majority of the British cafes that Britishers declare it is no longer possible to dine peace- fully in public. A census of restaurants and cafes without musical entertainment on the Continent, disclosed that Italy deserves the silence prize. In Northern Italy most of the better class hotels and cafes have either no music or have the dance band stationed at a long distance from the public dining rooms so that dyspeptic diners will suffer no ill effects.
