1927 December 17, WINNETKA TALK 59 GIVE FACULTY PARTY Teachers of Hubbard Woods School Are Hosts to Teachers of Other Schools to Christmas Party Winnetka teachers conning their mail early this week for messages other than those generally broadcast by the merchants at this time of the month were greeted with these words of cheer: Heigho! "Tis time of holiday! Mistletoe and holly gay, Christmas songs and happy mirth, Christmas joy o'er all the earth. Wherewith each one paused to mentally record the fact that the Yule- tide is almost here and to make cal- culations as to when and where the means to finance the annual dispen- sation of friendly tribute might be obtained. Having arrived at the con- clusion that that was a subject that deserved considerable attention, the perusal of the rest of the letter was begun. Now in this season gay and hearty, Hubbard Woods will have a party-- The time the fifteenth of December That date must you well remember ! A hasty check-up on the calendar established the fact that this was the second of the four parties to be given for the teachers of the Winnetka public schools, one being sponsored by each of the four schools. The first of the parties was given by the teachers of Greeley school as a Hallowe'en event. That the Hubbard Woods school faculty would conduct theirs asa Christmas festival was indicated by the next verse of the poem: A Christmas Carnival twill be, With jokes and fun and jollity, With bridge to play and dancing, too, And old Saint Nick with gifts for you. So come and help us celebrate The grand old march will begin at eight. Now the mention of Santa Claus for some reason caused the recalling of a persistent though unofficial report that the whiskers for the evening would be worn by Supt. Carleton Washburne and the knowing look worn by a large percentage of the invited guests this morning failed somehow to convince the less fortunate that the report was not based upon information gleaned from authentic sources. It is certain, at any rate, that the program for the evening included bridge and dancing : that favors were given and that a Christmas tree was in evidence from which "jest gifts" were distributed. Students at Country Day Hold Annual Vaudeville The annual vaudeville and dance given by the executive committee of the Students' Government association of the North Shore Country Day school, Winnetka, was held Friday, December 9.
