King of Wilmette was chos- en president of the North Shore Area council Boy Scouts of America at a session of the council officials at the Highland Park City hall Monday, De- cember 12. Dan G. Stiles, vice presi- dent of the First National Bank of Wilmette was named treasurer, Charles Steele of Glencoe was chosen a vice president of the organization. Scout Executive Walter McPeek an- nounced at the Monday's meeting that the council year closed without deficit. The North Shore Area council is composed of civic leaders in the com- munities from Wilmette to Lake Bluff and including Deerfield, Northbrook and Glenview. SPREAD XMAS CHEER Children of the Joseph Sears school, Kenilworth, are collecting toys, books and other things suitable for Christ- mas gifts for poor children in Chicago. These articles will be made into pack- ages and sent to the city in a few days. OILOMATI North Shore Dewey Hoke 448 Oakdale Glencoe 101 Erect Community Christmas Tree in Hubbard Woods A permanent monument to the "Yuletide Spirit" and an expression of the genuine Christmas greeting being extended to residents of the village by Hubbard Woods business men are the dual achievements in the planting by these merchants of the 25 foot ever- green Community Christmas tree in the park near the Hubbard Woods station. The tree is a live one and will re- main to serve the community through- out the years to come. It will be decorated with electric lights and other ornaments and will be visible to residents using the railroads and from streets in that immediate vicinity. The Hubbard Woods merchants have been busy durng the past few weeks decorating their stores and windows, with the result that the en- tire district now has the cheerful as- pect of the Christmas season. All shops will be open during the evening hours all next week. Former Glencoe Resident Dies at Chicago Hospital Funeral services for Jacob Nielson, a former resident of Glencoe who passed away at the West Side hospital in Chicago following an operation, were held from the Schaffer Bros. chapel in Evanston yesterday after- noon at 2 o'clock. Interment was at Memorial Park. Mr. Nielson was 77 years of age and moved to Glencoe in 1882 and lived there until about eight years ago, removing to Paris, Ill, and later to Chicago. He is survived by his widow and seven children: Mrs. J. M. Johnson of Evanston, Mrs. George Embleu of Pittsburgh, Mrs. J. W. Jenks of Paris, Tl, Mrs. Harry Otto of Naples, N. Y., Mrs. Arthur H. Cox of Van Nuys, Calif., Oscar Nielson of Omak, Wash, and Paul Nielson of Seattle, Wash. Mr. Nielson also leaves 22 grandchil- dren and two great grandchildren. Mallinckrodt Pupils in Xmas Observance Dec. 21 A Christmas program of pretentious proportions is to be given by the students of Mallinckrodt High school Wednesday, December 21. A feature will be "The Story of Bethlehem" and the school chorus, with the exception of the girls of the Senior class, will sing Christmas hymns. The girls of the Senior class will present a tableaux in harmony with the singing of the chorus. The School orchestra will play "Princess of the Sun," by Ben- nett, and "Andantino," by Lemare. The purpose of the program is to give an address to Mother Superior Edward of Maria Immaculata convent and to wish the faculty of Mallinck- rodt High school a merry Christmas. Yule Spirit Prevails at N. S. Methodist Service The atmosphere of the Christmas season will prevail at the morning services of the North Shore Methodist church, Hazel and Greenleaf avenues, Glencoe, tomorrow when Rev. Harold C. Case will address his congregation on the subject "The Power of a Spa- cious Life." PARTY FOR CHILDREN The annual Christmas party for the children of the members of Ouilmette council, Knights of Columbus, will take place Tuesday evening, Decem- ber 28, in the large I.0.0.F. hall Wilmette avenue at Main street, Wil- mette.
