December 24, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 35 Honor N.T. Star Wilhite photo HARLES (Chick) Markley, in the years when high school and college days are past, may gaze on many trophies, trophies awarded for his athletic achievements, but it is safe to say that none will be prized more than the bronze plaque which was presented to him last week by the Wilmette Rotary club at New Trier High school. As guard on the N. T. football team, Markley considered him- self just a football player, but as game after game was played and victory chalked up those who watched the progress of the eleven "saw" Markley. They saw him distinguish himself to such a notable extent that the Rotary club was forced to award him the plaque as the player having rendered the greatest service to his team. The presentation of the trophy by Lloyd Hollister was a complete surprise to Markley. Miss Muriel McCloud of Milwaukee, spent the week-end with Miss Elza- beth Joy, 370 Sheridan road, Winnetka. Sunday evening Miss Joy returned to Milwaukee with Miss McCloud for a few days' visit with her at her home. Miss McCloud attended Sweet Briar with Miss Joy two years ago. et» (hnpp> George E. AH ULLRICH Pre FOVNIAIN SQVARE EVANSTON before Christmas For people who have virtuously done their shopping early, these are moments filled with delight and breath- less expectancy. For those who inevitably failed to get their shopping done until the last day, this may be a time of no less pleasure, if they but know where to do their eleventh hour shopping. Need we say more? Directly after Christmas, we hold one of the year's most momentous sales. It is then that apparel stocks must be cleared. This year the clearance has excep- tionally rich offerings, because of the belated season. The sale begins on Tuesday, December 27. It will be well worth your time to get here on that day. Detailed announcements will appear in this paper on the 30th of December. ----and meanwhile, Merrie Christm <Q ! illic C $ LIB XARY 4 "= LLnos a and c
