- January 14, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 55 Winnetka's Big Year Told in Figures A NEW yearly record in building activities was established in Winnetka in 1927, according to Building Inspector A. B. Kreig, the old year, just ending, going over the top in its race with 1926, the previous high record year, with a good safe majority. There was a total of 280 building permits issued in 1927, authorizing building amounting to $2,632,775, as against 264 permits in 1926, when the valuation was $2,412,900. ' There was only one department in which the year 1926 record remains unshattered, and that was in the class of "new dwellings." One hundred seven new residences costing $1,754,500 were authorized in 1926, while the ninety, for which permits were issued in 1927, cost $1,634,900. The year just ending shows a marked increase in buildings erected under the general classification of "apartments, commercial and public," for which 31 permits were issued for improvements amounting to $516,200, as against 13, in 1926, for $467,000 worth of work. The past year proved a good one for the building of private garages, for which 110 permits were issued. The value of these buildings is $128,525. In 1926, 82 garages, costing $39,990, were authorized. There was a slight falling off in the number of permits taken out for making repairs and alterations during 1927, but the total value of this kind of work done was greater the past year than in 1926. Fifty-six permits of this nature were issued in 1927, for work costing $353,150, while the value of remodeling and repair work done in 1926, under a total of 62 permits, amounted to only $151,500.
