A two-part program, consisting ofza one-act play, "The Dress Rehearsal of the King's Freckle," and a concert by the New Trier High School board, will be presented in the school audi- torium under the auspices of the New Trier Tri-Ship club on Saturday, Jan- uary 28. The program will be given for the purpose of procuring money for the Tri-Ship scholarship fund from which loans are made to needy stu- dents to enable them to continue with their education. The concert by the band, which is directed by James Schumacher of the New Trier faculty, will represent the annual concert and will occupy half of the program. This feature of the school year is well known to north shore residents, having attracted con- siderable attention in past seasons and much favorable comment. The play, a farce-comedy, was writ- ten by C. R. Small, head of the foreign language department of the school. The cast is composed entirely of boys of the club who will take both feminine and masculine roles. It is directed by Gor- don Van Kirk, a member of the Eng- lish department and assistant coach of dramatics. Labor Is Debate Topic at Forum Next Sunday A debate upon the question "Is the American Federation of Labor Too Conservative?" will feature the pro- gram of the Uptown Forum Sunday afternoon, January 22. Norman Thomas, formerly socialist candidate for governor of New York and mayor of New York City, now secretary for the League for Industrial Democracy, will answer the question in the af- firmative. Victor Olander, secretary- treasurer of the Illinois Federation of Labor and of the International Sea- men's Union, will reply in the nega- tive 'The point of discussion will be the present policies of the American Federation of Labor in co-operation with capital and management and its alleged failure to serve aggressively workers on the lower levels of in- dustry. Bank Deposits Increase Nearly a Million in 1927 An increase of upwards of $1,000,000 in bank deposits in the seven banks in New Trier township during 1927, as compared with those over a similar period a year ago, is one of the strong- est indications of the growth, pros- perity and sound financial status pre- vailing in general on the north shore.
