Nomination as Representative From Local District The record he made in former ses- sions of the Illinois General Assembly is the platform upon which Lewis B. Springer of Wilmette is seeking the Republican nomination 'for State Representative from the Seventh Senatorial district, he stated this week. "I always made an effort at Spring- field," he said, "to do first, what I thought the people of my district wanted me to do, and second, what I thought was best for the people of the State of Illinois. That is my idea of the duty of a member of the legislature. The experience gained in former legislative service and my knowledge of the district in which I have spent a life-time, I believe, fit me to serve effectively and intelligent- ly in this capacity." Mr. Springer, who resides at 430 Maple avenue, Wilmette, has been a resident of the district for fifty years. Sponsors Forestry Bills In the two previous sessions of the legislature in which he served, he distinguished himself by his public spiritedness and his interest in every- thing that affected the country towns of Cook county. He was the father of forestry legislation. The present forestry act which is laying the foun- dation for reforestation of waste areas and for the preservation and improvement of forest lands in T1li- nois, was introduced by him. The bill carried an appropriation of $100,000 and provided for the appointment of a state forester. It had the endorse- ment of such outstanding organiza- tions as the Hamilton club, the Union League club, the Illinois Forastry as- sociation and the Federation of Wom- en's clubs. Mr. Springer also was « responsible for the establishment of the Agricul- tural Experiment station near Des- Plaines, which is proving a great bene- fit to Cook county truck farmers and gardeners. This station is unique in that it is devoted exclusively to re- search and experiments in the inter- est of truck farming and gardening. Lauded by Press In a statement relative to the sta- tion published in the DesPlaines Sur- burban Times, January 20, August G. Geweke, president of the Cook County Truck Gardeners' and Farmers' asso- ciation said: "Mr. Springer, whether in or out of public office, has always been a true friend of this organization and when- ever called upon was at once found ready and willing to co-operate in any manner possible and this same hearty co-operation is most heartily appre- ciated by the entire association." Mrs. S. D. Flood, president of the Kenilworth Garden club, plans to at- tend the annual convention of the Garden Club of America held in Cin- cinnati this year. These annual con- ventions have become so popular that club memberships as well as the number of delegates have been limit- ed. Several members of the Kenil- worth Garden club plan to attend.
