WINNETKA TALK February 18, 1928 ERC "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CAR 1 HAVE EVER SEEN" Fro ONSIEUR Saoutchik, whose comment on the new Pierce-Arrow is quoted above, is one of the world's most famous custom-body builders. His creations are found almost exclusively among the best known and most expen- sive European cars, such as Hispano-Suiza, Isotta Fraschini, Mercedes and Minerva. The new Pierce-Arrow is offered in fifteen cus- tom-built body styles with strikingly new lines and exquisite color combinations. Prices from twenty- nine hundred dollars--at Buffalo. 4 7 14 You may purchase a Pierce-Arrow out of income if you prefer. A simplified financing plan makes this a most practical procedure. Erma Blaine McKendry, prominent as a dramatic reader and active in lo- cal dramatic circles, is in New York studying in Theodora Irvine's Studio for the theater. The amateur theater has always been Mrs. McKendry's hobbv, and her performance in "Mary the Third," "The Truth About Blayds" and "The Pelican" for the North Shore Theater guild attracted favor- able attenton. Viewing her work in the studio, John Golden chose her for a play to open this spring on Broadway, but she will return to her home here when she has completed the Irvine course. . While in New York Mrs. McKendry lives at 80 Riverside drive. New Trier Tankers to Meet Lane Squad on Saturday Night In entering the "home stretch" of the 1927-1928 swimming season, New Trier takes on Lane Tech of Chicago at Indian Hill this Saturday night at 8 o'clock. Coach Jackson, in preparation for this event, is working hard to correct the errors which were apparent in the Evanston and Oak Park tilts. Roos will probably remain in the senior di- vision, and will swim with Bennett in the 40 and 100 yard events. Rogers will be in the 220 as usual. Although Coach Jackson has tried various men on the squad to enter this event with Rogers, he has not hit upon one that can do the eleven lengths in a very satisfactory manner. Read, however, put up a stiff battle against Oak Park, and came in third, being only a foot or two behind the single Oak Park entry. The breaststroke men have been chosen since the beginning of the year and will probably continue to swim, although Klupfer is always a powerful potential entrant. Read and Netterstrom are the backstroke men and D. Granstrom and Enchelmeyer are the divers. Larner is the outstanding man in the juniors, swimming with Prussing in the 40 and 100 yard events, as well as taking the fancy diving much of the time. N. Granstrom and King are the regular backstroke men and it is unlikely that they will be replaced. Springer and Zinner are to be entered in the breaststroke. Beside Larner, Barnard and Swabacker are the pos- sible entries in the diving contest. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Welsh moved last week from their old home at 791 Foxdale avenue into the house they have just built at 1180 Westmoor road.
