February 25, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 3,000 N. S. RESIDENTS TO PACK EVANSTON GYM Hold Township-wide New Trier "Party" This Saturday; Splen- did Program Arranged More than 3,000 residents of New Trier township will be in evidence at Beardsley gymnasium of the Evanston High school this Saturday night when a "township wide party" will be staged under the auspices of the athletic de- partment of New Trier High school. Proceeds from the event which is to be the largest of its kind ever staged local- ly, will be used in furnishing the boys' club room in the new school gymnasium and in purchasing a large bust of Col. Charles A. Lindbergh which is to be mounted in -the gymnasium. Arrange Big Program A program of unusual proportions has been arranged for the event, ranging from a basketball game with Stivers High school of Dayton, Ohio, to a musicale in which the entire New Trier chorus, two glee clubs and choir will be presented in a grand ensemble under the leadership of Mrs. Marion Cotton. The New Trier band of 100 pieces, di- rected by J. C. Schumacher, will play throughout the entire evening's per- formance and the 3 boys' leaders corps will give a demonstration of acrobatics and gym stunts. The girls' leaders corps will present a specialty dance number. Stivers high school holds the best re- cord of any school in the state of Ohio for a period of 10 years. Its teams have won 239 games and lost only 39 in 14 years; have won 5 state championships since 1914; have been runner-up twice and in the semi-finals twice. At the close of the season last year a sports editor of one of the Dayton newspapers presented data to prove that only ope team in the entire United States, Passaic, N. J., has a better record than Stivers. Present Best Line-up While the Stivers team this year has been somewhat handicapped by injuries, it has, nevertheless, won 14 games in contrast to 4 lost and scored 421 points to its opponents' 284. In the titlt with local basketiers Saturday night, Capt. Bob Lively and Bill Hoskett, both for- wards and Stivers' strongest scoring men, will be back in the line-up. Thus this part of the program will un- doubtedly be one of the best exhi- bitions of basketball witnessed on a local floor for several years. The affair has been slated for Beards- ley gym because of its large capacity. It is anticipated that the crowd will fillit to capacity, which, if this occurs, will be the first time since it was built. With the completion of New Trier's new gymnasium it will be possible to hold such a program at the local school and plans are now being formulated to make this event, embracing almost every extra-curricular activity, an annual event in which the entire township will par- ticipate. Charge 47 Prices for Gasoline, Report Shows Forty-seven different prices are charged for gasoline throughout the United States, the Chicago Motor club has been advised by the American Automobile association which recently conducted a survey, through its affili- ated organizations, to determine the various motor fuel costs. The lowest figure for straight run gasoline was 10 cents at Peoria, Ill, while the high- est was 27 cents at Phoenix, Ariz. The Mississippi Valley average is the lowest recorded by the survey, being 19 cents, while the average on the Pacific Coast is 20 cents and on the Atlantic seaboard, 28 cents. All of these figures are wthout special state taxes, which range from one cent to five cents a gallon.
