Housewarming Edition WINNETKASTALK March 3, 1928 Two Stairways Fit Into the Artistic Design of Building ITTING neatly into the artistic design of the building are two stairs by means of which the employes of Lloyd Hollister Inc. and visitors may ascend from the first to second floor and vice-versa. The stairs were manu- factured by the United Iron and Wire Works of Chicago and represent all that could be asked in the matter of serviceability. The two stairs in this building are of a construction which provides a light, strong mnon-combustable stair- way. This type is best for a building where fire resistant construction is required. The solidness of the stairs is indi- cated by these specifications: a heavy plate stringer pressed into form; plat- form plates of heavy blue annealed steel with necessary channel and tee iron support; treads and risers of heavy blue annealed steel with pressed steel nosing and provision for a cement filled tread; railings of steel bars screwed to channels top and bottom and securely fastened to stringers and newel posts: rivets machine driven. tion of the new building. Furnishes Cuts Which Make Pub- lications Attractive N the making of a modern News- Magazine, few essentials are more important than the "picture play." WimeME Lire, WinNETKA TALk and GLENCOE NEWS, recognizing the value of art in the production of | attractive publications are keenly alive to the fact that pictures, pic- tures that tell the news, pictures that serve to brighten the pages, must be presented to the readers. For that purpose a Picture Editor is on the job to direct a photog- rapher, who "shoots" Secretary the pictures from which La Salle Eng. the reproductions are Company jade. It is in the re- productive art that the engraver plays his part and it is here that the La Salle Engraving company of Chicago functions. The LaSalle company handles, exclusively, the engraving work for the Lloyd Hollister Inc., publications and one needs only to scan the pages of our north shore News-Magazines to see how well the job is being done. That it is done so efficiently is due in great measure to team-work. Our engravers preach '"team-work," and this has worked to our advantage be- cause our policy always has leaned to- ward co-operation. Such being the case an unmatched service is rendered, not alone where speed is considered, but in the quality of cuts which are turned out. The volume of our engraving busi- ness varies. But a fair estimate is that the Hollister publications print any- where from forty to sixty cuts a month, these including advertising illustrations. These run to all sizes and varying costs. WiLME™E Lire, WINNETKA TALK and GLENCOE NEws use copper and zinc half-tones. Service is a high point and as the LaSalle company performs under strong tension, the Hollister publica- tions are enabled to present their read- ers a fine quality of illustrations, even under "rush" conditions. Last, but not least, we mention that Wu merE Lire, WinNgErkA TALK and GrLEncoE News use a finished paper which gives the best results to repro- duction. Eight Fire Doors Give Protection to New Building ARRYING out studied plans to make Lloyd Hollister Inc. building fire-proof, special attention was given to the doors and for that reason all in the plant with the exception of those at the front entrance on Central avenue and the office partition doors are fire-proof. These doors are the product of the Variety Fire Door com- pany in Chicago, and are known as Var-clad and Three-Ply. They are built of wood and covered with the best of tin of various plys making them the "last word" in protection against fire. As indicating the size of the job on the Hollister building we call attention to the fact that the Variety company has installed one of its doors at the boiler room entrance, four at the elevator entrances, two at the east en- trance of the building, and one at the fire escape. There are folding doors at the east entrance. Lea J. Orr
