March 3, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 89 ILLINI RELAY MEET SET FOR MARCH 17 Five Hundred Athletes from Middle West Schools to Participate in Big Event Speed will be the keynote Saturday, March 17, when more than 500 athletes gather for the eleventh annual Uni- versity of Illinois indoor relay carni- val in the Illini armory. Recognized as the greatest indoor relay event of the year, the meet will attract the pick of the Big Ten, Mis- souri Valley, Little Nineteen, and other universities, high schcools, and colleges throughout the United States. That the meet has grown to repre- sent the best in track is evidenced by the fact that five world's records have suffered since the meet started in 1917. Nor will the track be the only place where speed is practiced as the man- agement plans to unfold the big affair between the hours of 7:30 and 9:30. Eight Relay Races There will be eight relay races. The university relays, one mile, two and four miles and medley races will be held at night as will the finals in the special events. College and high school relays, the all-around competition and the preliminaries in the special events will be staged in the afternoon. Special events will include the 75- yard dash; high and low hurdles; 300- yard, 1,000 yard, and 1,500 meter runs; high and broad jump, and pole vault and shot-put. Expect 4,000 Spectators Now that the relay meet is to be held later in the year when there are prospects of better weather for out- of-town fans, it is expected that more visitors than ever before will travel here. Tickets are now available. More than 4,000 spectators will be accommodated in the armory, one of the largest buildings in the world without a centrally supported roof. This lack of vision-halting roof sup- . ports and the distribution of the finigh lines on three sides of the track as- sure each spectator his share of the thrills, LECTURE ON WORLD WAR Dr. Guy Terry in the Thursday Study class which met at the home of Mrs. Gilbert Kelly, Cumnor road, Kenilworth, continued his study course on the historical study of the coun- tries of Europe up to the beginning of the World War, Dr. Terry has an in- exhaustible fund of information about the political and economical situation |§ at this period and he brought a very clear, lucid picture of the situation in the. Balkan states, in Serbia, and in Russia just before the fatal assassina- tion of the Arch Duke, Franz Ferdi- nand. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. Karl Korrady, in Evanston. JOINS BOND FIRM Mrs. Anna M-. Schaedler, 301 Sher- idan road, Wilmette, is announced as a director of the newly established Consolidated Bond and Mortgage com- pany with offices at 72 W. Washing- ton street, Chicago. Mrs. Schaedler will have supervision of the Woman's department. The opening of the new Edgar Ste- vens store in Evanston was of great interest to friends of Mr. and Mrs. Stevens in Kenilworth and it is inter- esting to know that the patronage of the models and accessories which Mrs. Stevens had assembled for the open- Ing were in such demand that she has had to make a hurried trip to New York for an added supply. Dishwashing Magic Two Racks The two basket, or rack, arrangement provides a special place for glassware and silver. Each piece remains stationary during the process. Geyser Motion An impeller connected to the motor, whirls the water up in a geyser - like motion, plunging it up and down in the dishes, reaching every spot. The Conover Simplifies Dishwashing Your dishes may be washed to an immaculate whiteness, rinsed twice, and dried--all in ten minutes time. Isn't that simple? All you have to do is to place the dishes in their proper places: silver in separate basket in bottom rack, plates in lower compart- ment, cups, saucers, and glasses in the upper rack. Fill the machine from the faucet (takes 15 seconds). Sprinkle in soap flakes and water softener. Turn on the current! Mounted on rubber wheels, this new appliance may be rolled about as easily as your tea cart, and tucked away in between times.
