T1-1tc HOPPER DOOR FOR GARBAGE No reason for slipping out of the kitchen to dispose of all house gar- bage, waste cans, paper, trash, etc. A handy hopper door installed near the kitchen leads to a brick combustion chimney. This, connecting with the regular chimney in the basement, is quickly re-dried, and when lighted burns quickly without operating cost. Do You Know-- 'HAT Elizabeth Kimball Nedved, " wife of Architect Rudolph James Nedved has just become a licensed architect. Henceforth the firm name of Mr. and Mrs. Nedved will be Ru- dolph and Elizabeth Kimball Nedved. That the building program in Chi- cago for the first twenty-four days of this year shows that the city is run- ning ahead of the same period of last year, Building permits issued from Jan. 1 to 24 inclusive this year amounted in valuation to $220,879,400. Last year for a corresponding period the building permits issued totaled $13,998,700. That the $22,000,000 improvement of Wacker Drive in Chicago has re- sulted in a meteoric rise in land values in that section. The improvement completed only fifteen months ago, it is estimated has added a minimum of $65,000,000 to the values of the abut- ting property, increment falling to the good fortune of less than two hun- dred owners. That the razing of a finely-built resi- dence does not mean entire wreck- age. It is learned that all of the floor- ing, heating plant, kitchen equipment, and other parts of the interior of the former Victor Lawson residence on the Lake Shore drive in Chicago are being installed in the enlarged Sunny Brook Farm Health resort. This prop- erty is at Round Lake, recently pur- chased by a syndicate sponsored by Dr. George A. Niswender of Chicago. That a few Chicagoans are enjoy- ing life close to the stars, These live in the roof bungalows atop skyscraper apartment and hotel buildings. Among these are Mr. and Mrs. John Hertz, who have their home on top of the Ambassador East. Mrs. Hertz says their home is about as quiet as a house in the country.
