March 17, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 31 Women's Clubs to Sponsor Chicago Homes Exposition A well-equipped homes exposition, to be sponsored by the Illinois Federa- tion of Women's clubs, will be held in Chicago May 14 to 18, according to a statement issued from state headquart- ers this week by Mrs. J. Marc Fowler, chairman of the federation's well- equipped home committee. The exposition will be held at the Stevens hotel in conjunction with the federation's thirty-third annual con- vention and will be under the direction of Mrs. Clarence G. Goodwin. Exhibits of the Home Bureau of the University of Illinois, and of the De- partment of Home FEconomics of the University of Chicago are already be- ing arranged. Booths showing labor- saving devices and home comforts; heating, lighting, ventilating and plumbing equipment: decorations and furnishings ; building and garden plans, and everything that goes to make up the complete home, will be included. The exposition is to be the climax of a four months' state-wide "better homes" campaign launched in January and based on the results of a survey of living conditions in 153 communities throughout the state. Emmerson Candidates to Speak in Chicago Mar. 17 Mrs. Anna Hagenow-Schaedler of Wilmette will preside at a meeting of the Emmerson ticket candidates, to be held in the Red room, Hotel LaSalle, Chicago, Saturday afternoon, March 17. The following candidates will speak: Secretary of State Louis L. Emmer- son of Mount Vernon, for governor; Senator Otis F. Glenn of Murphys- boro, for United States senator; Attorney-general Oscar E. Carlstrom of Aledo, for attorney-general, and William J. Stratton of Ingleside, for secretary of state. Judge Charles Hadley of Wheaton, who withdrew as a candidate for attorney-general, will speak for the entire ticket, Mrs. Schaedler, founder and past president of the Independent German- American Woman's club, has played many important roles in activities in Chicago and Cook county, as a leader and speaker. She was speaker for the German-American group at the Lin- coln Centennial. Receive Many Entries for Prep Meet at N. U. Entries for the Sixteenth Annual Northwestern track and swimming meet to be held in Evanston March 23 and 24 continue to arrive daily. Among the high schools which have already entered men are Cleveland Heights high school of Cleveland; Ur- bana High school of Urbana, Ill.; East High, Aurora, Ill.; Muscatine, Ia.; Hinsdale, Ill; Libertyville and Sadorus, Ill. More than fifty schools are expected to be represented in the meet this year. Walter Eckersall, famous sports authority, will referee the meet. Northeast high of Detroit and La- Grance High of LaGrange, Ill, who tied for the track title last year, are both expected to enter teams again this year. Mrs. John P. Oleson. 240 Woodstock avenue, Kenilworth, left last Sunday for Sarasota, Fla., where she will join Mr. Oleson and remain during the month of April.
