March 17, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 3F. =» Picture Reviews Line-O-News El JANNINGS, under the direc- tion of Ernst Lubitsch, is at work on "The Patriot," taken from a Ger- man drama about royalist Russia of a hundred years ago. "The Patriot" is nothing like "The Last Command" for it deals with Russia long before the revolution. The production is ahead of schedule and should be announced soon. kkk George Jessel will make the Chicago theater in person next week, supported by about twenty-five New York ar- tists and stars. He will, B. & K. an- nounce, present an entirely new pro- gram of songs, dances and comedy numbers. * kk The long heralded "Tillie's Punctured Romance," in which Chester Conklin, Louise Fazenda, W. C. Fields and Mack Swain co-operate to make life one laugh after another, is to be re- leased at the Oriental next week. ®isise bok A picture of New England life is to be filmed this summer with Miss Laura Hope Crews, now appearing in "The Silver Cord" at the Studebaker, in the principal role. Her farm near West Hartford, Conn. is to be the lo- cale. * kk "The Letter," with Katharine Cor- nell and a New York cast, was made known last Monday night at the Olym- pic theater. * kk "The Trial of Donald Westhoff," a U. F. A. production, is unusual and sounds very interesting. It is play- ing at the Playhouse this week. ki "Chicago," a shrewd satire by Pathe-De- Mille on the lady murderess, replaces "Old Ironsides" at the Roose- velt this Sunday, * Ibsen's "The Viking" is scheduled to be made known at the Goodman Memorial theater on Tuesday, March 20, replacing " 'Camille' in Roaring Camp." * kk "Straight Through the Door," with William Hodge, will open next Mon- day at the Princess. * % % With regard to this week's releases: They seem to be mainly mediocre. "The Secret Hour," with Pola Negri and Jean Hersholt, is a whitewash of the play, "They Knew What They Wanted," and is only an indifferent success. "Flying Romeos," a George Sidney and Chester Conklin comedy, is not at all bad and will certainly tickle you. "Square Crooks" "rates as a fair program." --Flub. COMMUNITY HOUSE Tues., Mar. 20 Fri., Mar. 23 Lois Moran JACKIE Edmund Lowe COOGAN "PUBLICITY Lars Hansen MADNESS" Gert. Olmstead by Anita Loos Roy IV'Arecy Animal Comie "BUTTONS" "The Divine Woman" Next Presentation at Norshore With bright sunshiny days, inter- mingled with light showers, and other predicative occurrences, Al and his clownsters have begun to feel lazy and inclined to blast forth nothing but languishing harmony, which oozes from their instruments in slow, tan- talizing fashion. As a result, Al has decided to call his next show at the norshore, "Spring Fever." It will be a gay jazz jamboree chock full of light-hearted melodies, in accordance with that reckless feeling usually accompanying the spring season. Featured in this production is Julia Garrity, who is noted in Chicago for her talent at blues singing, which she exhibited while working some time ago with Paul Ash at his Oriental theater, where she scored a tremen- dous hit. Greta Garbo, the beautiful woman from foreign soil who has won the acclaim of American movie-goers, comes to the Norshore screen in her latest picture, "The Divine Woman," with Lars Hanson as the hero. It is an odd picture, with a foreign locale, and an extremely unusual plot. ~ Miss Garbo runs the gamut of human emo- tions in this film, from "an innocent convent girl to a temperamental prima donna and idol of her audiences. Lowell Sherman is his sophisticated self, conceited but. likeable, while Hanson performs in good fashion.
