March 24, 1928 WINNETKA STALK 19 Hamilton Club to Honor Rathbone at Banquet March 27 Members of the Hamilton club of Chicago and their friends will give a dinner in honor of Congressman-at- Large Henry R. Rathbone of Kenil- worth, at the club, Tuesday evening, March 27. A committee of members, headed by Hon. Robert McMurdy, former Judge of the Illinois Court of Claims and former president of the Illinois State Bar association, is mak- ing arrangements for the banquet. A host of friends of the Congress- man from Chicago and nearby towns will be present. Congressman Rath- bone's friends have felt that they should recognize his valuable services to the community and to Illinois in some form and they have decided upon this affair at a time when the Con- gressman is prominently in the public eye. The dinner is open to all of his friends. Besides a number of Republican men who will be present, several women prominently identified with political, civic and social work in Chicago and the suburbs will attend. Congressman Rathbone joined the Hamilton club in 1896 and is a life member. He has taken an active in- terest in the affairs of the club since that time. He served on the board of directors and the Political Action com- mittee and was president of the club from May, 1916 to May, 1917, during the Hughes-Wilson presidential cam- paign and at the time the country en- tered the World war. Upon the ex- piration of his term of office as presi- dent, the club passed resolutions heartily commending his administra- tion: of the office. During the last few months, the Con- gressman has been busy at Washing- ton, occasionally returning to Chicago on official business. He is one of the best known political figures in Illinois. During the summer and early fall he visited every one of the one hundred and two counties in this state, gather- ing data and opinions to guide him in his legislative efforts at the capital. Miss Ruth Johnston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnston, Mel- rose avenue, Kenilworth, entertained sixteen of her friends at luncheon and bridge last Saturday afternoon at her home and is again entertaining a simi- lar number this Saturday. The party of last week was carried out in green colorings as it happened on the day of St. Patrick. --0-- Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woodruff of Evanston, the latter Miss Beatrice Pease, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. War- ren Pease of Kenilworth, are possess- ors of a daughter, born on Thursday morning, March 15, at the Evanston hospital. Monroe St. Chicago, IIL " Central 4193 Senior Ball Crowning Social Event at N. U. By M. W. The annual senior ball, the crowning event of Northwestern's social season, was held last Friday evening in the Patten gymnasium. 'More than 250 couples danced in the blue canopied hall under huge arches of white lattice work covered with twining spring flowers. Carl French, class president, and Evelyn Gibbs, social chairman, with their partners, Ruth Harold and Willard J. Buntain, led the grand march. The gymnasium was transformed into a beautiful ballroom. Pointed blue lanterns hung from the blue canopy overhead, casting a soft moonlight glow on the palms, plants, and banks of flowers appearing as a garden be- low. In the center of the floor there was a large fountain and a platform, where Bobby Meeker's Drake hotel orchestra played. Delicious refresh- ments were served. The New Trier Music club held its monthly meeting at the home of Miss Charlotte Erwin, 615 Warwick road, Kenilworth. Different members of the club gave a program, which was foi- lowed by refreshments. C. DD MACPHERSON Interior Decorations Draperies Selections made by experienced decorators.
