March 24, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Legionnaires Pick San Antonio, Texas for 1928 Convention Motor travel in 'the South and Southwest is due for a marked boom this season from the national conven- tion of the American Legion and five other great national gatherings to be held in this section of the country this summer and fall. i With the large amount of new con- struction completed, the 100,000 Legionnaires and the 200,000 members of the other organizations attending the conventions will find splendid highways for motor tours in the most romantic region in the United States with a history dating back beyond the American Revolution. The Legion meets at San Antonio October 8-12 and already inquiries on roads are coming in, according to Philip B. Stapp, Legion convention director. The other gatherings are: National Junior Chamber of Com- merce, San Antonio, May; General Federation of Women's Clubs, San Antonio, May; Shrine, Miami, May; Democrats, Houston, June; Elks, Miami, July. MARDI GRAS SATURDAY The Mardi Gras at New Trier High school will be held in the Mess hall at 8 o'clock Saturday evening, :March 24. The hall will be brilliantly and effectively decorated. Favors will be given to each guest, and refreshments will be served. Margaret Whitsett is chairman of the affair, Jane Burrill is chairman of the decoration committee, Nellie Weil chairman of the refresh- ments, Jane Wilson of the entertain- ment committee, and Frank Watt and Carl Carlson are ticket managers. Costumes may be worn if the guests so desire. North Shore Girls Win Phi Beta Kappa Honors Six women and four men at North- western university, all except two of whom live in Chicago or on the north shore, have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, honorary scholastic fraternity, Professor Clyde Murley, president of the Northwestern chapter, announced this week.
