March 31, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 1 GIVES NEWS "SCOOP" Winnetka Man Provides Chicago Daily With Model of Great Califor- nia Dam; Looks Like Real Thing Photographs of the recent disastrous flood in California as the result of the collapse of one of the huge dams above Los Angeles, were whisked eastward by airplane, but the quick thinking of a Winnetka young man enabled one of the Chicago dailies to beat the service of the airplane in the way of getting a photo of the dam for publi- cation. Frank Luensman, who is now clerk- ing in the hardware store of E. B. Taylor & company, 546 Center street, Winnetka, was a resident in Holly- wood, Cal, until recently, engaged in making models of dams, boats and various other things used in the mov- ing picture industry. When Luensman read the first dispatches about the breaking of the St. Francis dam, he recalled that he had worked on a model of it and also that he had a good photograph of the model. He telephoned this information to a Chicago daily and post haste a repre- sentative called for the photograph and from it there appeared one of the early newspaper illustrations of the struc- ture.
