Annual Oratory Contest The oratorical contest, which is being held by the advanced public speaking classes at New Trier High school, is drawing to a close. All the students in the two classes delivered their ora- tions last week and the six or seven best renditions were selected. Three are to be chosen from that number, and the speakers will compete in the finals of the contest. Among those still re- maining in the contest are, Herma Logan, Emma Rummler, Jane Burrill, Jack Leach, Steve Harwood, Bill Hughes and Elmer Rich. The finals of the contest will be held late this week or after Easter Vacation, and the winner will be acknowledged as the first orator of the school, and will thus be entitled to have the cup for one year, until the contest is held again next year. ON RECITAL PROGRAM The eighteenth student recital of the year was given by Helen Tollefson of the Northwestern University school of music Thursday evening March 22, in Music hall. Miss Tollefson played Concerto in A major by Moszkowskt and several selections by Bach. Hardin Van Deursen of Wilmette, baritone, assisted in a group by Schubert. Miss Margaret Albright was the accom- panist. Miss Bethany Crowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Crowe, 234 Raleigh road, Kenilworth, is returning home this week to spend her spring vacation. Coach Jackson will lose a number of good men. Captain Bennett will leave a vacancy in the forty and hun- dred yard events, although Norman Russ is usually in a hurry in these two races, and should take Bennett's place. He has two more years of competi- tion. Booth, of the senior back stroke men, leaves in June. Preston Read and Ralph Netterstrom, who have managed to annex a number of places in back stroke events, also leave in June. Bob King and Norman Grand- strom swam this event in the junior division this year but will be moved up to the senior division next season. In the 220-yard swim--the longest event on the list--Coach Jackson will have to find someone to take Netter- strom's place. The breaststroke duo will be broken up, as both Rich and Rogers completed their fourth year of competition. In the diving division Enchelmeyer as well as Don Grandstrom will he back next year. Other prospects for next year's team are Larner, Patter- son, Williams, Prussing, Sprenger, Bent, Robb, and Zinner, all of whom have had experience this year as junior, or senior swimmers. One record for the New Trier tank went down this year when Captain Bennett made the forty yard swim last December in 19 2/5 seconds--good college time. The armory at the University of Illi- nois, Urbana, is the largest in the United States. A II IIIIIIIIIXIIIIXIXXXXIXXXIXXXXIAAL ® Draws to a Close. piece reserved.
