The fol- lowing guest conductors have appeared at various times: Arne Oldberg, Felix Borowski, Henry Hadley, Deems Taylor, Percy Grainger and Eric Delamarter. In 1921 the association offered a prize of $1,000 for an original American or- chestral composition. The contest at- tracted wide attention, and brought forth some seventy works. The successful con- testants were: Camille Zeckwer, 1922; Charles M. Loeffler, 1923; Felix Borowski, 1924; Harman H. Wetzler, 1925; and Ed- ward Collins, 1926. The contest was abandoned in 1927, as a musical journal glsred a much larger prize to the same end. Schu- mann, as well as selections from operas by Tschaikowsky, Borodin, Mousourgski, Gounod and Wagner. In addition a vast number of arias have been sung and orchestral works played, not to mention the cantatas and selection children. Fowler has again been elected president of the Women's Quadrangle association of North- western, the position she has held since the inception of the organization, which deals with the common problems of the sororities owning houses on the campus. It is entirely original as are all the drawings made in this school. This problem has given these students an opportunity to master a most difficult element of artistic expression and in such a way as not to let them realize how hard it was but rather to be carried forward through their intense interest in producing a picture full of romance and adventure. The entire class did this problem, each one creating a different scene. The underlying principles, however, were all the same, Next week we shall reproduce another one of these drawings, A Spanish Caravel. We are proud to print our students' works, for they show clearly how the creative ability of the individual is developed here.
