CIRCUS COMING Automobile Show to Be Feature of Annual Carnival on Campus An automobile show will be a fea- ture of the 1928 Northwestern Uni- versity circus. Twenty dealers in Ev- anston and the north shore have already taken space for the showing of their new spring models. The auto show may become an annual affair. The scandal sheet of the Circus, the Barker, will appear on the campus two days before the opening date. This year the publishing of the Barker Recently, a number of people were has been taken over by Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalistic fraternity. The Barker will appear as a parody or take-off on a well known Chicago daily. More stunts have been turned in this year than ever before, as seven- teen sororities and fifteen fraternities have submitted manuscripts. The Cir- cus Board will award the center ring to the best stunts and the outside rings to the second and third best in each act. The ring positions will be announced next week. Plans for the usual three mile parade are under way and ideas for floats are now being accepted from campus organizations. These plans are all submitted to the Parade com- mittee and unless the plan is worthy of a float in the parade the organiza- tion submitting that plan will be re- fused the privilege of having a posi- tion in the parade. To Broadcast Afternoon Music Hour Over WMAQ Fay Palmer Kreer of Winnetka, as- sisted by Dorothy Riley. Brown of Kenilworth, sang a miscellaneous pro- gram at the Evanston Drama league meeting Thursday afternoon at the Evanston Woman's club. On Friday afternoon she sang at the studio in the Fine Arts building, for the Chicago Federation of Woman's clubs. She was assisted in this program, also, by Mrs. Brown. From 2 to 3 o'clock every afternoon next week, Mrs. Kreer and Mrs. Brown will give a program at Lyon and Healy hall. These programs will be broad- cast over WMAQ. One unique feature of the week's series will be a group of duets arranged by Mrs. Brown and sung by both. These are old folk tunes from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and England, and are sung in the language of their country. Tells N. U. Alumnae of Forest Preserve Acreage That acreage which almost fulfills the amount designated in the original forest plan has been acquired by Cook county, was the statement of Gen. Abel Davis in his talk on the "Modern City" Friday evening before the asso- ciate alumnae of Northwestern uni- versity, their husbands and friends, at a dinner given at Le Petit Gourmet, Chicago, by the Alumnae association. By a map of the Cook county pre- serve, Gen. Davis showed that there is now almost a continuous line of forest land from the Wisconsin to the Indiana line. The greater part of this pre- serve follows the Des Plaines river. Recent plans call for the damming of the stream so as to create artificial lakes suitable for boating and other recreational purposes for the people who live to the west of the Des Plaines, as there are no other pleasure grounds in that district. The original plan of making automo- bile roads throughout the preserve has given way to one for leaving a part of the forest inaccessible excepting by quiet little foot paths, and in land which will be left in its natural state, wild plant and animal life may exist. In a spirit of working for the com- mon good, commissioners of Cook county are being assisted at the state boundaries by co-operation of officials of Wisconsin and Indiana. The latter state is working with Illinois for the preservation of the duneland, General Davis announced. General Davis is a member of the Forest preserve advisory committee. Herbert Hurd, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Hurd, 518 Sunset road, will re- turn to the University of Illinois at Champaign, on Tuesday, April 10, after spending a vacation of a week at his home.
