The special survey, made by the federation's well-equipped homes com- mittee in conjunction with its general state survey to determine living con- ditions in Illinois communities, in- cluded Cairo, Benton, Blue Island, Chamaign, Chicago Heights, Collins- ville, Dixon, DeKalb, Elmhurst, Gales- burg, Highland Park, Macomb, Mur- physboro, Ottawa, Harvey, Urbana, LaSalle, Lincoln, Kankakee, Streator, Waukegan, Wilmette, Mattoon and Winnetka. Find Interesting Data In the 24 communities surveyed in| this population group, 71 of every 100 | homes are equipped with telephones, according to the report. The survey also showed that more homes in these communities have automobiles than washing machines or vacuum cleaners. Automobiles are owned by 55 of every 100 families reporting, electric wash- ing machines by 32 per 100, and elec- tric vacuum cleaners by 35 per 100. The figures also showed that only six more homes per 100 have electric irons than automobiles.
