April 14, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 51 N. U. Law Library Gets Oil Portrait of F. B. Crossley Oil portraits of Frederic B. Crossley of Wilmette, librarian of the Elbert H. Gary Library of Law, of North- western university, and of James Lam- bert High, distinguished Chicago at- torney, deceased in 1898, was presented to the Northwestern university School of Law Friday in a ceremony in the faculty room of the Levy Mayer hall, McKinlock campus. The painting of Mr. Crossley is a gift from the Northwestern University Law Alumni association in appreciation of his 26 years' service on the law faculty. He was graduated from Northwestern in 1899. The portrait was done by Axel Linus, Swedish- American artist, well-known in Chica- go for his large mural paintings in the Swedish Viking temple and portraits of the Mandel and Dr. Hirsch families, The High picture is to be presented by Mrs. Margaret High Ennis, a daughter. It is the work of Christian Abrahamsen, who painted the por- traits of Henry Booth, first North- western dean of law, Henry S. Towle, distinguished Chicago attorney, and the copy of Healy's Lincoln, all of which now hang in Levy Mayer hall. Want to Own Home? This Shows It's Not Hard Thing to Do Paying $125 a month rent? That is ,500 in one year. In 15 years you will have spent enough to have purchased a handsome home, even with all interest on taxes, repairs, loans, and other carrying charges taken into consideration. But you haven't the down payment? All you need is 15 per cent of the * value of your home. You would like a $20,000 home? Three or four thousand as down pay- ment would swing it nicely. You haven't got that, you say? Why not? You are paying good rent. You must make good money. In fifteen years are you sure then you will be in any better circumstances? Ever thought of starting to buy a lot now? In some community where you know you would like to live if you could afford a home there? With your salary--based on the rent you pay-- you wouldn't find it hard to pay for the lot by monthly payments. Then when your lot is paid for you can go ahead with your plans for building a house much more easily--for the lot can always be mortgaged for cash.
