April 21, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 29 League of Vocational Supervision to Hold Annual Card Benefit The Vocational Supervision league is making extensive preparations for its annual card party which is sched- uled to take place Thursday after- noon, April 26, at the Stevens hotel. Individual table prizes, favors, and other prizes, contributed by leading merchants, promise to make it an un- usually attractive affair. The League was founded in 1911 and is entirely dependent on private subscriptions from interested individ- uals and clubs throughout Chicago and its suburbs. The Winnetka Woman's club has generously con- tributed a whole scholarship each year since 1922. Mrs. Arthur Cush- man, president of this club, Mrs. James Deming, delegate to the league, and Mrs. Edwin Brown, chairman of the committee of civics and philan- thropy are active in promoting its work. The purpose of the league is to provide financial assistance to earn- est, bright children in the Chicago public schools to enable them to_con- tinue in school beyond the minimum requirements of the law. At present it is helping 114 worthy students to learn some remunerative vocation whereby they and their families may be made independent. All the investigation of applicants and supervision of active cases is con- ducted by trained social workers. There is an unlimited field for the future growth of the Vocational Supervision League as every year its list of applicants increases tremend- ously: and it is with the hope of doubling its resources to meet this urgent need that the benefit party is being launched. Milan Lusk in Farewell Concert; to Go Abroad Milan Lusk, internationally known violinist, has just received a cable from the Svojsik Concert Management of Prague, Czecho-Slovakia offering him a number of important European con- cert dates for the months of May, June and July. He has decided to ac- cept them and will be leaving shortly for his European tour, but, before his departure, will be presented in a farewell recital on the , north shore by the Delta Zeta sorority in a benefit concert at the Evans- Milan Lusk ton Woman's club on the evening of Tuesday, April 24, at 8:15 p. m. This recital will afford the only op- portunity for music lovers on the north shore to hear this popular violinist before his departure abroad. He has arranged a program of unusual attractiveness, including, by request, the famous Mendelssohn violin con- certo as one of his most important of- ferings. Tickets are on sale at the Winberg and Renneckar drug stores in Wilmette and at Chandler's in Evanston. Miss Ruth Truska of Wilmette is chairman of the committee in charge of the recital.
