- April 21, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 49 Dramatic Club in Trial Performance of Contest Drama Thursday afternoon, April 19, "The Scales and the Sword," by Farnham Bishop, was given by members of the New Trier Dramatic club, in an assem- bly for the entire school. "The Scales and the Sword" is a one-act play, coached by Gordon Van Kirk, which New Trier will enter in the dramatic contest to be held at the Goodman theater in May. The motive of the play, as may be guessed from the title, is justice, The action takes place in a town, just after a great fire. The refugees come in to a store, to buy bread, only to find that the storekeeper, knowing that for the time being he has the only available supply of bread, has raised his price to a dollar a loaf. The part of the storekeeper is play- ed by Kingsley Karnopp, that of the captain of the militia, by Steve Har- wood, and Kenneth ~Lovgren and Dorrance Nygaard have other impor- tant parts. New Trier Ranks Second in Music Memory Contest The New Trier Music Memory team won second place in the annual music memory contest held at Orchestra hall, Chicago, Saturday, April 13; First place was taken by Gary, Ind, Mem- bers of the New Trier team were Lottie Kuenkele, Dorothy Paley, Elaine Nelson, Marion Jean Sax, Georgia Schoenthal. New Trier also distinguished itself further when the New Trier orchestra was given the honor of playing at Orchestra hall after the contest, while the audience was awaiting the judges' decision.
