April 21, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Joseph Koshaba to Speak at Christ Church Tomorrow The cause of Near East Relief will be presented by Joseph Koshaba at the 11 o'clock service in Christ church next Sunday morning. Mr. Koshaba is a native Persian and is a graduate of an American college. He has led a very dramatic life and has been an eye witness to many massacres. He has been lec- turing and working for his people through Near East Relief for a num- ber of years. Near Fast Relief is now engaged in a $6,000,000 campaign which will com- plete its work in the orphanages of the Bible countries, where 32,131 chil- dren are still under American care. Some of these children are still under 12 years of age and all of them are under 15. Near East Relief took them in along with about 100,000 more chil- dren who have been graduated and placed in homes or positions, and to finish up the work of caring for them for the next few years is vital Near East Relief is an American philanthropic organization chartered by Congress, and it has had the en- dorsement of the last three presidents. The state chairman is Frank O. Low- den, the Treasurer, George M. Rey- nolds. - Through the generosity of the American people it has saved nearly 1,000,000 lives in the last 10 years in Armenia, Greece, Syria and Persia. Its big work has been the caring for 132,- 000 orphans, not only providing shelter and food for them (at an average cost of 17 cents each per day) but also giving them an education and a know- ledge of agriculture or practical trades, so that they may go out into the world and be self-supporting good citizens. The Near East Relief orphans and graduates have learned American methods of farming and have been especially successful in rejuvenating agriculture in the backward lands in which they live. The girls have been taught domestic science, nursing, nee- dle work and such other occupations as they may be able to use in their part of the world, and all of the chil- dren have had sound religious and ethical training.
