Winnetka the pride of all Winnetkans is to have an ugly unloading station in its very heart--within sight of its wonderful Village hall of which we are justly proud, and to the depreciation of thousands and thousands of dollars worth of personal property. This eye-sore is being allowed be- cause three or four of our loyal (?) merchants find it much more con- venient for them, and much more profitable to their particular bank accounts. We all know there is a track over West--""a splendid team track and unloading facilities where there are large areas, for future industrial devel- opment," (WINNETKA TALK, April 21) --and we all know that the Chicago & North Western would prefer to have its freight deliveries over there where it should be, away from its passenger service and where there would be less danger of accidents. For years and years our Council has been working on a plan of depression of the railroads for safety's sake and yet we read that this unloading station will be permanent--above ground--so that cars can enter and exit for un- loading and trucks can come and go So many people are dying now, of Influenza and Pneumonia, which invariably follow colds. \ COLD TABLET will cure any Cold, or Cough, very promptly if taken according to directions on back of box. at will all day. The noise of the back- ing engines, the banging of switching cars and the smoke and dust must be borne by those in close proximity all of the time and by all of the villag- ers some of the time--and all because three or four of our "Merchants" wish the "convenience" of it. Is this fair to the rest of us? Is not this an injustice to the many property owners who are concerned? Is this loyalty to our Model Village? If our Council allows itself to be dictated to by personal business inter- ests are we going to sit by and do nothing to prevent this gross injustice ? This unloading station in the center of our beautiful village is a public nuisance and should be handled as such. Only a short time ago our Mr. Woolhiser in speaking to one of us called attention to the fact that the North Western was doing a great deal of unloading over West and that gradually it would all go--and yet he must have known at that time that this nuisance was being planned as a fixture in Beautiful Winnetka--for the material "convenience and accommo- dation" of a handful of merchants. Must the Village stand for this? Come to the Protest Meeting at Community House, Wednesday nicht, April 25. --A VILLAGER. New Trier Junior Prom is Scheduled for May 12 The New Trier High school Junior Prom will be held on the evening of Saturday, May 12, between the hours of 8:30 and 12 o'clock. Elaborate decorations are being planned for the affair, in which the Seniors of the school will be enter- tained by the Juniors. It will be a "date" event and summer formals will be the dress, it was announced. The Four Horsemen of Northwest- ern university, a dance orchestra that is credited with "hot music and mean rhythm," will be featured. Dances will be by program. The Prom will be supervised by Miss Lillis Price, advisor chairman for the girls, and Samuel Vernon, advisor chairman for the boys.
