May 12, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 53 DR. G. D. ALLISON IS NEW BAPTIST MINISTER Accepts Unanimous Call of Wil- mette Church; Leaves Promi- nent Delaware Pastorate Dr. George D. Allison, pastor of the Second Baptist church of Wilming- ton, Dela., has accepted the call of the Wilmette Baptist church, to be its pastor. He will take charge of the church early in June. Dr. Allison was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., and has always lived in the East. He graduated with honors from Brown university in 1905, was given a Bachelor of Divinity degree by the Union Theological seminary, New York City, in 1908. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Columbia university, having majored in Soci- ology. Fine Civic Leader After his seminary days Dr. Allison had a wonderful pastorate in Ruther- ford, N. J., a suburb of New York City. During a pastorate of eleven years he built up a strong congrega- tion and rebuilt the church building. Leaving Rutherford in 1920, he ac- cepted the pastorate of the Second Baptist church of Wilmington, Dela. This is the leading Baptist church in the state. His success in Wilmington has been noteworthy and he has en- deared himself to the entire city. One of the features of his pastorate was radio broadcasting of the Sunday night service. Dr. Allison was presi- dent of the Baptist State Convention of Delaware for four years, was elect- ed grand chaplain of the Masons, also chaplain of the Kiwanis club, and also has held many other community and state honors. Mrs. Allison, who has always been prominent in girls' and women's work in the church, is a graduate of the New York State College for Teachers. The family consists of two boys, ages 11 and 4. The members of the Wilmette Bap- tist church are very much delighted over the prospect of Dr. Allison's pastorship. The call extended to him was unanimous and he will come to the Wilmette Baptist church under the best of conditions as far as unity of spirit and purpose can be secured. The Wilmette Baptist church has been without the services of a regu- lar pastor since February 1 of this year when the resignation of the Rev. Francis Carr Stifler, pastor for 11 years, became effective. PHONE Elite Employment Service for Your Domestic Help Male © Female Dept.
