Jean Hersholt, June Marlowe and Ralph Graves are featured in "Alias the Deacon," which is adapted from the stage play by the same name and is a good show. Jean Hersholt is out- standing as the psalm singing card shark. You'll like it. "Across the Atlantic" is a Monte Blue picture. Monte plays the role of the wounded wartime ace who is be- lieved to be dead by his father, brother and sweetheart. His folks go to France to wisit the place from which he last wrote. He wanders away from the hospital to his father's airplane factory. He takes a plane and crashes and his apparently delirious talk causes him to be again COMMUNITY HOUSE Tues., May 15 Fri.,, May 18 Jean Hersholt | "ACROSS THE June Marlowe ATLANTIC" Ralph Graves with m "ALIAS THE | MONTE BLUE DEACON" Pathe Review Fox News Collegian: Oswald Comedy: Bill-O-Fare Saturday, May 12 "My Best Girl? .......... And he has shown also that realism, stark and powerful, is his forte on the screen, realism with a grim, human quality that burns into the mind. This time it is "The Street of Sin," more than a worthy successor to his first American production, "The Way of All Flesh," which created a place for the tragic screen drama in a land given over to happy endings. Replete with heart shock, fine irony and pathos, this Paramount picture will follow Lon Chaney's "Laugh, Clown, Laugh," at McVicker's theater starting Monday, May 14. Jannings stalks through the rabble of the London slums like a conqueror in corduroy. The streets of Limehouse obey the threat of his fists and women love him despite his brutality. It is essentially a story of regeneration, but wrought differently than ever before on the screen. His reformation, brought about by Fay Wray, who plays a Salvation Army lass, is vivid because it is truthful. His purpose in "playing good" is dire in the begin- ning, but turns to retribution and he finds himself vainly in love. Miss Wray and Madame Baklanova, the latter a celebrated Russian actress from the Moscow Art theater, give splendid performances. Maurice Stiller directed the picture from a story writ- ten by Josef von Sternberg and Ben- jamin Glazer, baring the heart of seunalid Limehouse. GALABAN & KATZ ORSHORE HOWARD AVE."
