WINNETKA TALK May 12, 1928 "Where good food and good people meet" The Management of the LINCOLN TAVERN Announces the GALA SPRING OPENING of their FIFTEENTH: SEASON Saturday Evening, May 12, 1928 WITH AL HANDLER and his FAMOUS RADIO and COLUMBIA RECORDING ORCHESTRA For Reservations PHONE MORTON GROVE 8 Dempster Street, four miles west of Evanston at Morton Grove DELICIOUS DINNERS and A LA CARTE SERVICE Theater News and Reviews Teatro Showing "Old Ironsides" Wednesday Teatro del Lago is presenting "Thanks for the Buggy Ride" this Saturday--of which much has already been said. However, to repeat, "it is an excellent comedy with a new idea and one you'll like." "The Cohens and the Kellys in Paris" is the Sunday booking. George Sidney is Mr. Cohen, as in previous in- stances, but J. Farrel MacDonald assumes the role of Kelly. Decidedly good entertainment with several new ideas, at least as far as the "Cohens and the Kellys" are concerned. "The Devil Dancer" presents Gilda Gray among the Llamas of Tibet. Gilda is a "mean dancer" and this feature as well as her ability as an actress would insure the success of a far less interesting picture. Good show. "Old Ironsides" needs no introduc- tion. Oliver Wendell Holmes nailed her flag to the mast but it took Para- mount to picturize the reasons for that nailing. The film is so vivid that you can almost hear the guns and smell the smoke. "Chinatown Charlie" concludes the week's program. Johnny Hines' best-- and a mighty good best. By the by, take a tip? Well, wher- ever you find them go see "Sorrel and Son," "Old Ironsides," "The Patent Leather Kid," "The Circus," and "The Crowd." We hear that Emil Jannings has taken over the home of Joseph Schenck and Norma Talmadge on Hollywood Boul. Emil says he needs a bigger place for his expanding household. EO Release Haines' "Smart Set" via Norshore Sunday With spring in the air, and summer in the offing, Al Kvale, the Jazz Clown, and his gang of jazzicians have felt the "urge," and for their next stage offering at the Norshore theater, beginning Sunday, May 13, will present a colorful revue entitled, "Sunshine Days." A brilliant cast, combined with Al's merry syncopators, will make an elaborate spectacle, and harmony supreme will issue from the instru- ments. The cast is well picked, and includes such personalities as Ed & Morton Beck, Jones & Elliott, Sally Sweet, Jean Sheldon and The Sunshine Bal- let. William Haines, screendom's "smart aleck," who has so enhanced his repu- tation with his likable grin and self- confident mannerisms, will be seen on the silversheet in "The Smart Set," a fast story of elite society and the intriguing game of polo. Alice Day plays opposite Haines, while Jack Holt and Hobart Bosworth are includ- ed in the featured cast. A thrilling polo game climaxes this novel film, and Haines is at his best ever. Miss Day is smartly pretty and proves her right to a distinctive name among the stellar celebrities of the fair sex. "The Smart Set" affords genuine entertainment and completes a delightful program. Good at guessing? Well take a swing at this one: What will Charlie Chaplin do next? Here's a lead, he says that his forthcoming comedy will be "The Suicide Club." At any rate Merna Kennedy will take the feminine lead.
