June 16, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 37 Summer Classes Prove Popular at High School The popularity of the New Trier High school summer school was shown in the results of a questionnaire recent- ly answered by members of the stu- dent body of the school. There were 1,443 responses to the questionnaire or about ninety percent of the possible total. Nearly half the students now in school have atended the New Trier summer school and many of them have attended more than one session. Eighty-one percent of those who at- tended summer sessions reported that they believed it benefited them, six percent were sorry they attended, and thirteen percent did not answer the question. About one-third of the present Sen- ior class has attended summer school two or more times, one-third has at- tended only one summer session, while the remaining one-third has never at- tended. Mrs. Edward Armstrong of Glen Ellyn has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Mair of Wilmette. Construct New Bridges Over Drainage Channel Further improvement of the North Shore channel by construction of four new steel and concrete bridges to replace existing inadequate structures spanning the channel at Devon avenue, Dempster, Touhy and Church streets, is provided in a contract awarded by the Sanitary District of Chicago to O'Brien Brothers Construction com- pany. Work is to begin immediately upon this program, as well as eleven paving projects included in the $700,000 con- tract, to close up that many 500 foot gaps across the District's right-of-way along the channel. "Better bridges over the North Shore channel at these localities have been a need of long standing," President T. J. Crowe stated. "The old spans are but fifteen feet wide, while the streets leading up to them have a width of forty feet, creating a 'bottle neck' which has seriously retarded traffic over a wide area. "During construction of the bridges there will be no interference with traffic, which will be handled by build- ing temporary wooden diversion bridges." MULGRIN Semi-Annual Sale FOUR GROUPS...
