June 30, 1928 : WINNETKA TALK KENILWORTH PLANS BIG FOURTH OF JULY EVENTS Parade in Morning to Be Fol- lowed by Athletic Program at New Trier in Afternoon Plans for an elaborate Fourth of July at Kenilworth have been completed. The day's program will begin in the morn- ing at 10:30 o'clock when the patriotic exercises and parade will be held. The parade will form at Kenilworth avenue and Warwick road and will proceed by way of Warwick to Woodstock, west to Essex, north to Kenilworth avenue, and west to Fountain square. A fifteen-piece brass band, boy scouts, campfire girls, school children, citizens, automobiles, and comic entries of various kinds will make up the parade. Prizes will be given for the first and second best entries, for the best costumed boy, the best costumed girl, the best decorated vehicle for boys, the best decorated vehicle for girls, and the best comedy entry. Judges of the parade will be: Mrs. Thomas Coyne, Mrs. John Hicks, and Mrs. George Benson. Prizes will be awarded immediately following the flag ceremony on the Kenilworth club grounds, Patriotic Singing Harold O. Barnes will lead in the singing of "The Star Spangled Ban- ner" at 11 o'clock, after which the sa- lute and pledge of allegiance to the flag will be led by the Kenilworth Boy Scouts. An athletic program of forty events will be held on the campus of New Trier High school in the afternoon, with mu- sic by a brass band to add to the spirit of the day. There will be special events for boys and girls up to fifteen years old to be judged by Harold Barnes, Wen- dell Clark, Clayton Burch, Paul Brad- | ley, Leslie McArthur, Ward Starrett, Herbert Taylor, Jacques de la Chapelle, and Harold Tideman. Children's Events Following the children's events the fathers, led by Noble Gillett, will vie with the sons, led by Toto Gillett, in a relay race, and afterwards in a base- ball game. Thomas Coyne will be cap- tain of the fathers for the baseball game and Rosswell Coyne will captain the sons. First, second and third place winners in each of the athletic events will re- ceive ribbons. Medals will be given to high point winners in each class, and loving cups to the champion boy and girl athletes in the junior and senior class. The Fourth of July committee is com- posed of the following: Walter Knoop, chairman, Ralph Starr, field marshal, Robert Townley, Louis Jones, Thomas Coyne, Leon Allen, Jacques de la Cha- pelle, Charles Nelson, Herbert Taylor, Ward Starrett, McArthur, Harold Barnes, Wendell Clark, Hugh Petersen, Harry Olin, and : Paul Bradley. OPEN GARDENS TOMORROW The garden loving public, under the i. auspices of the Lake Forest Garden club, is given the opportunity, at a nominal admission charge, to view beautiful Lake Forest gardens on Sat- urday mornings during the summer season. This week Mrs. Edward L. Ryerson, Mrs. Cyrus H. McCormick, Mrs. D. Mark Cummings, and Mrs. Kent S. Clow will have their gardens open during the day. Mr. and Mrs. C. Colton Daughaday, 180 Chestnut, left Monday, June 25, on a two weeks' tour. They will stop in Massachusetts to visit Mr. Daugha- day's sister, and will return by July 4.
