On the farm the fodder crops grew 10 to 12 feet high. Just across the boundary line were the fields of a local farmer. The difference in crops was a very convincing argu- ment. In December we held a "Farm Day" at Manamadura." Outlines New Work The two missionaries from the Win- netka church have made definite plans for the comisz year's work. Mr. Wol- sted says: "This year we hope to open work in the large town of Devakotta, which has a population of 12,000. My vision is that some day that will be the cen- ter for a new pastorate reaching from the sea inland for about fifty miles. Only two days ago our council re- ferred that plan to a committee for investigation. Another important reso- lution was the adoption of the plan to make Sivaganga headquarters for Sethur pastorate. You may recall that I once sent you a map showing the untouched territory shaded in black. Sivaganga is the center of government for that area and in many ways an important place. We believe we have made a step in the right direction in selecting that as a Church center for the development of work in that open field." Garden of Allah Books Fred Hamm's Orchestra Coming back to Chicago from a year as headliners on the Keith-Albee vaudeville circuit, Fred Hamm and his Collegians opened at the Garden of Allah, Glenview, Ill, on Thursday, July 12. Fred Hamm is one of Chicago's original dance and radio favorites, having broadcast several years ago from stations WLIB and WGN. The orchestra was also well known through its many Victor records. Following its Chicago run, the Hamm orchestra journeyed eastward and became so successful in vaudeville, that the Kieth- Albee circuit built up an entire unit show around it. Primarily a dance orchestra, special- izing in sweeping rhythms and melo- dies, the Hamm orchestra enlivens its programs with a speedy succession of novelties, singing and diversified en- tertainment. The Garden of Allah, where the orchestra is now playing, is located on Waukegan road at Lake avenue, five miles directly west of Lake Michigan.
