---_. July 28, 1928 WINNETKA TALK WINNETKA DEFEATS NORTHBROOK. 12 T0 2 Strong Palatine Aggregation Coming Tomorrow; Local Fans Assured of Good Game The local baseball contingent went on a batting spree last Sunday and buried Northbrook by a score of 12 to 2. The Skokie Playfield was some- what soggy due to the heavy rains and at times the boys were unable to get a footing. The locals batted out a two tally lead in the initial frame, and from then n were never endangered by the 9g The Northbrook club has been piling up a commendable record on their home diamond lately, but the strange atmosphere on the Skokie Playfield, combined with the soggy diamond and free hitting baseball club stopped their winning streak at five games. Jack Slattery, who assumed George Panosh's role as Winnetka pitcher last Sunday, was a beauty to behold. Jack struck out nine Northbrook men, al- lowed a scant six hits, and polished the day off by not walking a man. Bill Carey's inability to hold the of- ferings of Slattery gave the visitors their two runs in the sixth. Bestor was given first base when Carey drop- ped his third strike. Leath produced a one base blow to right and Bestor halted at third. On a passed ball by the illustrious Bill Carey, Bestor scampered home and Leath pulled up at third. On a supposed squeeze play Hirst missed, and in an attempt to catch Leath at third Carey threw far in to left field allowing Leath to score their final run. Four in the Sixth After their two runs in the opening stanza, Winnetka continued to pile up their score, chiefly by solid hitting. In the fourth the locals added six more and in the seventh crossed the pan twice more. The final two runs were picked up in the eighth, on a couple of healthy smacks by Runnfeldt, Slattery and Prange. This Sunday the Palatine aggrega- tion will travel to the local stamping ground to joust with the rampant lo- cals. A hard, hard hitting club of good boys is expected to journey here, and it will take all the locals' canniness to administer a defeat to them. The local lads have been rather despondent for the past few Sundays, however, despite their impressive vic- tory over the Northbrook club. No- body can put on a show without an audience and the Winnetka nine is no exception. Give the local boys a hand, gang, and turn out for the Palatine game. Both teams are above the average, and a good game is in store for you. Three o'clock Sunday af- ternoon, at the Skokie Playfield. 1929 Illinois License Plates Green and White : Automobile license plates to be used in Illinois in 1929 will be dark green background with white numerals and border, according to an announcement made by Secretary of State Louis L.
