Cause American Indian Day attains a new significance this year by reason of the nomination to the vice-presidency by the Republican party of Senator Charles Curtis, a man of Indian blood, according to Marion E. Gridley, secre- tary of the Grand Council Fire of American Indians, and also because the Republican party has not over- iooked the American Indian in its platform. "There has been a notably increased interest in Indian affairs since the nomination of Senator Curtis," said the secretary, "and numerous inquiries have been received as to whether he had been invited to attend our an- nual American Indian Day exercises." This invitation was extended in a letter of congratulations of the Grand Council Fire, through its president, Scott H. Peters, of Wilmette, who is a full-blooded Chippewa. In reply Senator Curtis regretted his inabiliy to accept, while expressing his pleas- ure "that those of Indian blood are taking an interest in the campaign." Mr. and Mrs. Charles W.
