8 WINNETKA TALK August 18, 1928 New Trier Book Store Will Open September 6 The New Trier Book Store will be open September 6, 7 and 8, from 9 to 12 daily, according to David E. Johnson, manager. Students should purchase all books and supplies needed for the opening week of school at that time, Mr. Johnson advises. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Stanton and their sons, Edgar Jr. and Francis, of 30 Locust road, are leaving August 11 for a ranch in Wyoming to be gone about two weeks. JEWELL Ariel Clyde Jewell, formerly of Win- netka, died at Boston, Mass, August 4. Funeral services were at Rosehill chapel, Thursday afternoon of last week. Mr. Jewell is survived by his wife and two sons. Mrs. Leslie Craven, 381 Elder lane, entertained at luncheon and bridge last Tuesday afternoon. Florida Boy Net Champion Reaches Finals in Meet Bob Stewart, Florida boy tennis champion, has advanced to the finals in the junior singles division of the tennis tournament which has been in progress at the New Trier High school courts during the last three weeks. He defeated Bill Morris, Senn High school champion, in the semi-finals 6-2, 6-8, 6-3, 6-4. Stewart reached the semi-finals on a default by J, Iliff, after previously defeating D. Wanger and Marshall Dudley by decisive scores. After beat- ing Bill Robbins and Bill Gibson in_the early rounds, Morris met Dean Vail in the quarter finals and won 6-3, 6-3. John Sheldon, winner of the tour- nament at New Trier last year, is the favorite who is expected to meet Stew- art for the championship in the junior singles division this year. Sheldon is taking part in a tournament elsewhere and the play in the first bracket has been slowed up because of his absence. J. Parker defeated Claude Hill in a junior singles match Tuesday 8-6, 6-3. In the men's singles division of the tournament play has not advanced be- yond the first round. Results of late matches were as follows: B. J. Smith beat Frank Willard 6-1, 2-6, 6-4; A. Seddon beat Bud Calloway 6-0, 7-5; and Bill Morris beat Dick Burke 6-2, 6-3. McLain and O'Brien reached the second round in the doubles play by defeating Kahler and Snyder 6-0, 6-3, after whipping Simmons and Nelson in the first round 6-3, 64. In another late first round match Holter and Fleming beat Munns and Crawford 6-1, 6-8, 6-3. Mr. and Mrs. Ossian Cameron, 548 Cherry street, and their two sons left last Wednesday for a motor trip. They will circle around Lake. Michigan, keeping close to the shore line, and will return in about ten days. lo Mrs. M. H.
