Going into the last half of the eighth inning three runs behind, and with Ray Gore, the Glencoe hurling ace, showing no signs of weaken- ing, it was really a spectacle to be- hold to -see the Winnetka athletes break his pitching charm and score five runs to put the game safely away. Such a spirit as the Winnetka boys put forth in that boisterous eighth in- ning will long be remembered by the one thousand fans who turned out to witness the battle. Johnnie Lindholm was given free transportation to first on a walk. On an attempted hit and run play, Holleb missed, and when Hol- stein's throw got by "Maney" Rudolph, Johnnie continued to third, Holleb singled to right, and Lindholm scored. Winnetka Fills Bases Izard drew a walk, and "Bill" Carey singled to center, filling the bases. Holleb scored when Rudolph's throw to first to catch Prange was wide. Izard and Carey scored on singles by Runnfeldt and Jacobs, putting the locals ahead by one run. The 1,000 fans were in a turmoil, and pitcher Gore was anything but at ease 'mid the shouting. The last run was made when Runnfeldt scored while Kadison was being thrown out at first. Neither Mills nor Lindholm could pro- duce hits to push their buddies across the plate. At the start of the game Glencoe made every effort to pile up a com- manding lead, but snappy fielding on the part of the local nine checked their attack. In the second, Glencoe scored a run on Schroeder's single, Glader's sacrifice, and Holstein's single. Win- netka evened the count when "Bill" Carey got his first of three hits. Prange moved him to second with a sacrifice and he stole third and came in on Jacob's infield out. Glencoe Scores Three In the fifth inning Glencoe exploded three hits for as many runs, Holstein, Gore and Hohlfelder singled in succes- sion, Gore being put out at the plate by a perfect throw from left field by "Fid" Runnfeldt. Hohlfelder scored when "Howy" Prange bobbled "Maney" Rudolph's hot grounder, and the latter continued home on a passed ball and an infield out. Winnetka made the score 4 to 2 in the sixth on "Bill" Carey's two base wallop and Prange's single. Glencoe concluded their scoring in the eighth on hits by Rudolph, Glader and Schroeder. "Johnnie" Jacobs and "Fid" Runn- feldt starred in the field for Winnetka, while "Bill" Carey walked off with the batting honors, gathering two singles and a double, and scoring three runs as well. Bricklayers Coming The race for the Township cup will be temporarily halted next Sunday, when Winnetka will engage the Brick- layers, the crack traveling team of Chicago. Last Sunday they beat the Chicago Blues 7 to 2, and have won the last seven games played and these with the best teams in the Mid-west league. The Bricklayers are said to be by far the strongest baseball team that has ever come to Winnetka, con- sequently the locals are preparing for another stiff battle.
