: a -- no ------_ September 29, 1928 FIELD MUSEUM OFFERS FREE LECTURE SERIES Speakers of Note to Give Talks in James Simpson Theater Beginning October 6 Subjects, speakers and dates for ten free illustrated lectures to be given for the general public this autumn, com- mencing Saturday, October 6, at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, were announced this week by Stephen C. Simms, director of the museum. This is the fiftieth free lec- ture course upon scientific and travel subjects to be given by noted men under the auspices of the museum. The lectures are all to be given on Saturday afternoons at 3 o'clock, in the James Simpson theatre of the museum, where seats are available for more than 1,100 persons. No tickets are necessary for admission. Director Simms urges that those planning to attend arrive promptly, as the theatre doors will be closed as soon as all seats are filled. The first of the lectures is, "Across Sumatra from East to West," and will be given by Professor Adriaan J. Bar- nouw of Columbia university, New York. Following is the program for succeeding Saturdays: October 13, "Isles of the Southern Cross," Fred Payne Clatworthy of Estes Park, Colo.; October 20, "On the Roof of the World," Captain B. Noel, London, who was official photographer of the 1924 Mount Everest expedition; October 27, "Jungle Gods," Captain Carl von Hoffman, F. R. G. S.,, New York; November 3, "Excavations at Kish, Mesopotamia," an account of work conducted by the Field Museum- Oxford university joint expedition, by Henry Field, assistant curator of physical anthropology, who recently returned from Kish; November 10, "Sinbads of Science and the Sea," George Finlay Simmons, M. A., Cleve- land Museum of Natural History; November 17, "Treasure Hunting in Bolivia," Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Wellington Furlofig, F. R. G. S., Bos- ton; November 24, "Under the North- ern Lights," Captain Donald B. Mec- Millan, leader of the recently re- turned Rawson-McMillan Subarctic expedition of Field Museum; Decem- ber 1, "Civilization of the Mayas--Past and Present," J. Eric Thompson, as- sistant curator of Mexican and Maya archaeology, who was leader of the recent Captain Marshall Field Arch- aeological expedition to British Hon- duras; December 8, "The Turkestan," George K. Cherrie, New York, mem- ber of the James Simpson-Roosevelt- Fa Museum expedition to Central sia. Wilmette Golf Club to Hold Field Day, Stag Wilmette Field Day and Stag will be celebrated at the Wilmette Golf club Saturday, September 29. Play will be as follows: Low net foursome, Classes A and B; Low net foursome, Classes C and D; 18 holes, medal play, handicap. Prizes to winners in each event. Award of prizes will be made in the evening. CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF EVENT The Fourth and final round of the Alley championship event will feature the scheduled play at the North Shore Golf club Saturday, September 29. There will be Match play against par, full handicap, with prizes to winner and runner-up.
