H, P. 2400 Richard Dix Comes to Teatro del Lago in Baseball Movie Richard Dix will be at the Teatro del Lago this Saturday in "Warming Up," which, from all appearances, will be ranked with "The Quarterback," one of his best. In "Warming Up" he is the same athletic, lovable Dix, but this time his toe is in the pitcher's box. The story concerns a young rookie whose troubles are not confined to the diamond. Jean Arthur, playing op- posite Mr. Dix for the first time, has a chance to prove why the star cannot be blamed for loving her. "The Night Bird," new Reginald Denny comedy, is coming to the Tea- tro del Lago this Sunday, November 4. It is about a prize fighter and his private life and how his manager in- sists that he indulge in a few night excursions so that the public will like him better and go to see him fight. Betsy Lee, a recent discovery, has the feminine lead and plays it with the grace of a veteran. The Teatro del Lago management has announced a two day showing of "The Patriot," most recent Emil -Jan- nings picture, next Monday and Tues- day. The great actor portrays Mad Czar Paul, autocrat of all the Russians in the latter part of the eighteenth century. He was a most fascinating figure, so historians tell us, and Jan- nings has succeeded in capturing the spirit of his character. Mad Paul had the heart of a child, and the brain of a tiger. Jannings portrays both. Based on the old Drury Lane melo- drama first produced almost a century ago, "The Whip," coming to the Tea- tro del Lago "mext Wednesday, is brought up to date in settings and dress, and its many thrills are magni- fied by modern technical skill and photographic ingenuity. The plot re- volves around a horse race, with a great deal resting on the proper horse's winning the big derby. Dorothy Mac- kaill brings her beauty and charm to the leading feminine role and Ralph Forbes proves an excellent foil in the masculine lead. Anna Q. Nilsson is seen as the beautiful and scheming "vamp." Lowell Sherman is also in the picture. Those who have read "The River Pirate," by Charles Francis Coe, which sometime ago ran in the Saturday Evening Post and which comes to the Teatro del Lago for a two day en- gagement beginning next Thursday, will recall that it was the story of a boy who never had a chance until he met the girl who plucked him from a life of crime and brought him back to decency and to her. Victor McLaglen plays the stellar role of the river pirate. Nick Stuart is his companion and Lois Moran is the girl in the case. Laura La Plante will make "The Compromise," by Edward J. Montagne, following completion of "Show Boat." The picture will be released under the title, "That Blonde." Hollywood's celebrated "Cocoanut Grove" cafe furnishes one of the high lights in Columbia's production, "Noth- ing to Wear." "No Defense" is the name of a new motion picture in which May McAvoy will play opposite Monte Blue, Anna Q. Nilsson is to be Wallace MacDonald's leading lady in F B O's new picture, "Blockade. | "Win That Girl" Is Now Showing at the Varsity "Win That Girl," with Sue Carol in the leading role, is now playing at the Varsity theater in Evanston. The story deals with the football records of two families and two rival colleges. The Nortons have been playing for years for good old Sanford, and the Brawns have been doing their stuff for Mammouth for a like period. The rivalry and bitterness between the two families is more intense than the feel- ing between any two mountaineer feud groups. And always, too, throughout the years, there has been a girl be- loved by the scions of both families, and won in each case by the one that wins "the big game." "Our Dancing Daughters," with Joan Crawford and Anita Page, "The Tempest," with John Barrymore and Camilla Horn, and "Wings," with Clara Bow, Charles Rogers, Richard Arlen, and Gary Cooper, are among the pictures to be shown in the near future at the Varsity. Graeme Players Present "Adam and Eva" Friday The Graeme Players, stock company which appears weekly at the Alcyon theater in Highland Park, will present Ruth Shipley's famous three-act ro- mantic comedy drama, "Adam and Eva," next Friday, November 9. The play had much success both on Broad- way and in Chicago. Joe Driscoll, who was scheduled to appear last night at the Alcyon in "Second Childhood," again will be in the leading role in "Adam and Eva." The feature picture for the evening will be Reginald Dennv in "The Night Bird." The pic- ture will be shown both before and after the stage performance. 3 NIGHT LIFE PICTURE "City Lights," Charlie Chaplin's new picture will be fully synchronized and have sequences in dialogue, it is an- nounced. The screen offering for the week at the Granada will be "Captain Swag- ger," with Rod LaRocque and Sue Carol, the former Chicago girl, in the leading roles. Mr. LaRocque is seen as a daring aviator, who, somewhere in France, saves the life of the dan- gerous German aviator, Von Stahl, making the latter eternally grateful. Back in America Captain Swagger runs into hard times--and Sue Arnold (otherwise Sue Carol), who is also in- timately acqainted with them. She is a cabaret dancer out of work. Cap- tain Swagger is well known and pop- ular with cafe managers as well as the public, so he and Miss Sue join forces.
